Biography

Sheram Chingkhei, a filmmaker, animator, and producer from Sylhet, Bangladesh, started his cinematic journey with a desire to challenge stereotypes and amplify marginalized voices, notably his Manipuri heritage within Bangladesh. His directorial filmography includes "Fishbowl" (2018), "Imphaldagi" (2019), "Eigi Sylhet" (2024), "Moments Before Dying" (2024) and "Mama Pabung" (2024). "Imphaldagi" was screened at the 5th Hill Film Festival (2021) and Matribhasha Utsab (2023). Additionally, Chingkhei produced "Pollution Mare," which secured the Best One Minute Film award at the 10th Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (2024). In the face of ethnic stereotyping, particularly the pervasive "Bengali gaze" in Bangladeshi arts, Chingkhei's work increasingly confronts misrepresentation. Beyond film, his multidisciplinary approach, spanning poetry, painting, writing, and music, enriches his storytelling. Currently developing his first feature, Chingkhei remains committed to challenging stereotypes.
