James Gunn, the director of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and DC's Task Force: All Together, spoke to Martin Scorsese on the Podcast recently, reprising his claim that Marvel is not a Cinema but a theme park.
"It seems very cynical that he's always been against Marvel movies, and that's the only thing that gets him news for his own movies. He's writing his movies in the shadow of Marvel movies, so he's using that to get attention because he's not getting as much attention as he would like."
"He's one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and I love his movies," Gunn said. I can watch his movies without any problem. He said a lot of things I agreed with, and a lot of things he said were right." Gunn adds, "There are a lot of ruthless, soulless wonder movies that don't reflect what's supposed to happen. I can't tell you how many times I've talked to a lot of filmmakers before they go on a big movie and say, 'Hey, let's do something different with these big movies, let's do something completely different from what we've done before. 'Only to see them play to every studio's whims and be disgusted."
While Gunn partially agreed with Scorsese, he called scorsese's comments about Marvel films "irritating" because Scorsese had not seen his own films and had no idea what his work was like.
