The real historical adaptation of Minamata starring Johnny Depp was originally scheduled to be released in North America on February 5 this year, but the schedule was cancelled due to the epidemic.
The film's director Andrew Levitas recently issued an open letter criticizing MGM for deliberately not allowing the film to be released due to Johnny Depp's family dispute.
Levitas wrote: "I don't understand why an actor's private life is more important than the suffering of victims of industrial pollution."
Regarding Andrew Letavis'open letter, MGM stated that the film still has plans to be released in the United States, but the time has not yet been determined.

They I hope to announce this to the public so that other innocent people will never be tortured like them... Last year's cooperation with MGM made this wish seem to be about to come true."
But now, these victims have learned that although the film has been promoted globally for a long time, MGM has decided to hide the film because MGM is worried that the personal problems of the actors in the film may have a negative effect on the film. From MGM's perspective, the victims of Minamata Disease and their families are secondary.
