Based on Marcus Ratelle's memoir of the same name, Lone Survivor tells the story of a team of four Navy Seals who infiltrate Afghanistan to kill a terrorist leader, only to be attacked by a bad decision that nearly annihilates their team.

It was voted "the best war movie since Saving Private Ryan" by audiences that year. The film is set against the backdrop of the War in Afghanistan, but the director tries to play down the political direction of the film, deftly avoiding the controversial issues of U.S. involvement in the war and focusing instead on more resonant aspects of brotherhood and teamwork. In addition to the true event adaptation and starring Mark Wahlberg's market appeal, the film in the end, not optimistic about the situation, to achieve good word of mouth and pleasing box office.

The film was nominated for best Sound Effects and Best Sound Editing at the 86th Academy Awards.
