The first trailer for Matrix 4: Matrix Reborn was unveiled at CinemaCon recently, confirming the subtitle and trilogy starring Lana Wachowski and Lily Wachowski
Instead of co-directing, sister Lana directed the fourth episode alone. Why is that? Lily recently offered the answer while promoting her new book, "Work in Progress."
Lily Wachowski says she hasn't been in touch with her sister Lana since the fourth matrix movie was wrapped, saying, "There's definitely no appeal in going back and redoing what I did. I don't want to go through another gender transition, the death of my parents. Like I'm going to go back and put on an old pair of shoes again, and I don't want to do that."
When The Matrix came out in 1999, it was directed by the Wachowski brothers, Andy and Larry wachowski. In 2009, larry Wachowski successfully transitioned to a woman, changing his name to Lana Wachowski. In cloud Atlas, they were brother and sister, and in 2016 Andy Wachowski changed his name to Lily Wachowski, making them sisters.
"The Matrix 4" will be released on December 22 in North America, simultaneously on HBO Max. Director Lana Wachowski and actors Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Ann Moss, and Jada Pink-Smith return.
