Absolutely the worst movie.
Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.
View MoreOne of the nice things about an Italian ripoff film is that it allows us to revisit the worlds of our favorite movies. You don't need any exposition or set up — you already know all about how New York City got even worse from Escape from New York. Just sit back and enjoy, because Enzo G. Castellari (the director of the original The Inglorious Bastards) is has the wheel."In the year 1990 the Bronx is officially declared No Man's Land. The authorities give up all attempts to restore law and order. From then on the area is ruled by the Riders."The Riders are having some problems. There might be a traitor in their midst. And Trash (Mark Gregory, Adam and Eve versus the Cannibals and the sequel to this film, Escape from the Bronx), their leader, can't get his mind right "now that's he's had a taste of Manhattan pussy." Oh yeah — there's also a turf war that could break out at any time. That aforementioned young lady is Anna, the heiress to the Manhattan Corporation, an arms company that has no morals. She's left her duties behind, but the company has hired Hammer (Vic Morrow, who died on the set of The Twilight Zone), a mercenary who was born in the Bronx, to bring her back. His plan? Turn the gang decision up to 11.Producer Fabrizio De Angelis claimed that he got the idea for this movie when he missed a subway stop and ended up in the Bronx, imagining a future where gangs would battle for their homes. In truth, he probably saw how successful The Warriors was. Sorry, that sounds cynical, but once you see this films gangs, like the rollerskating Zombies, you may feel the same way. With interiors filmed in the actual Bronx and interiors filmed in the totally fake Bronx (regulations required that 50% of a film had to be shot in Italy), the film actually looks pretty great.Plus, it has one hell of a cast, with Fred "The Hammer" Williamson making Ogre the best character in the movie. Essentially playing the same role as Isaac Hayes in Escape, his outfits, harem of women and fighting style make him stand out. His girlfriend, Witch, is played by 1976 Summer Olympian Elisabetta Dessy and she's awesome, as she fights with not only a whip but claws, too! She does it all wearing a cape!Hot Dog is an informant that Hammer uses against the gang, played by Christopher Connelly of TV's Peyton Place and Manhattan Baby. And oh yeah, George Eastman, Nikos Karamanlis himself, plays Golem, who dresses like a Mortal Kombat character. How can this get any better? It can't. I was so excited during this film — I watched it around 4 AM, when all good movies should be consumed — that I started yelling for the gang to wise up and kill Ice, the traitor who dresses like a Nazi. There's also a bonkers scene where the Riders and Tigers meet in front of the World Trade Center and drummers play while they talk. None of the drum playing was scripted! Even better, real Hells Angels — including Chuck Zito — made up most of the bikers in the film (they made fun of the stiff assed way that Mark Gregory walked during filming)! And I haven't even gotten to the Iron Men, a gang that tap dances!Read more at http://bit.ly/2A2zrBW
View MoreFrom the start of this movie, it had me kinda interested. The funky bassline with the typical '80s soloing, it was just so cheesy and awesome, it made me feel like I was in for a good time. We get told that in 1990 the Bronx has become "no man's land" and that The Riders control it. A blonde woman is being attacked by a gang when the Riders roll in, beating away the gang. The Riders stop near a place underneath a bridge, and another gang in old, flame covered muscle cars pull up. The leader of this gang killed one of their members for entering their turf. This member was one an undercover. The Manhattan Corporation are watching over them, on a "secret operation". They are trying to track down the blonde girl, who's apparently the richest girl in the world. A man infiltrates where they are hanging at and shoots two members with a shotgun, causing a fire fight. He takes off in a semi, and the Riders chase after him on their bikes. They flag the truck down but don't find him. They find a ring belonging to a rival gang called The Tigers, and the Riders cry out for war. This is a trap set up by the Manhattan Corporation to lead them in the wrong direction. Trash and Ann, the rich girl, get trapped by the gang from the beginning, The Zombies, and get attacked and beaten. Trash drives back to the gang to tells them he plans on going to somebody called the Ogre or something like that, but that would require them to go through all the rival gang's turfs. They come across the first gang, a gang that tap dances while they fight and move. Trash manages to talk to the leader to let them pass. Meanwhile, the left over members decide to get revenge on the truck driver, but get caught by the man with the shotgun, who calls himself Hammer. The Riders move through this tomb/tunnel thing where the get ambushed by these dusty ninja things. One is killed, but Trash and the rest manage to fight them off. The member that got captured turns traitor and goes and steals Trash's main weapon. One member tries to alert Trash but is killed by those dusty zombie ninja things. Hammer inexplicably catches up with them and reports their whereabouts. They end up in The Tiger's territory and sneak about trying not to be caught. Hammer stops Trash, and the two confront each other. He tells Trash that he will be the one blamed for one of The Tiger's deaths. Hammer gets away and Trash is caught by the gang. Trash ends up talking the leader of The Tigers into working together, telling him that Hammer had set them up against each other. The member that tried to warn Trash is found hanging almost dead. He tells Trash the other member has turned traitor, and then Trash mercy kills him. Hammer is told that he needs to get the girl within the next day by 11 or he dies. Hotdog tells him that Ice, the traitor, made a deal to get her back and they plan on flying her back to the Manhattan Corp. Trash and the leader of the Tigers make their way into The Zombies headquarters. Ogre and the Zombies' leader duke it out, and Ogre ends up killing him. Trash joins in to back him up, and the fight off the Zombies. Ice stabs Hotdog with a boot knife, killing him. Trash goes to confront him, Ice tries to get him to turn on the girl and the two start fighting. Trash pushes him down a hole and he is impaled. The Manhattan Corporation storm around The Tiger's hideout, big trucks filled with their troopers surrounding them. More troopers continue to approach and enter the building, firing off flamethrowers. The Tigers run and flee, as they are attacked and killed. After a long battle, the Ogre is shot multiple times and dies, soon after Ann get shot and slowly dies in Trash's arms. An Angered Trash gets revenge, shooting a harpoon into Hammer, killing him. He manages to escape and rides off. This is an enjoyable action movie that does not try to hide what movies it is ripping off of (although a lot of Italian rip offs did this). It's just good fun, with lots of action and some blood and gore. There's lot of cool sets and scenery, especially in those tomb/catacomb area. The gangs are all memorable and different, and pretty goofy at that. Trash is a likable hero, and we do feel for him at the end. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of old '80s action movies, and the movies this movie rips off of. It's just classic '80s fun, camp and cheese included.
View More***SPOILERS*** Futuristic film, released in 1982, about the Boro of the Bronx circa 1990 where crime has gotten so out of hand that the NY City Government abandoned it to its fate. In letting the Bronx get overrun by criminal outlaw biker gangs who made the Bronx into a living hell. It's in that hellhole that a young 17 year old who's to inherit the Manhattan Arms making Corperation Anne Fisher, Stef Girolami, decide to escape to in order not be be made CEO by her pop the cooperation's president Ted Fisher, Enio Girolami. Mr. Fisher who doesn't have long to live plans to make his daughter Anne president before he leaves, by dropping dead, the scene.Anne gets hooked up with biker gang leader Trash, Marco Di Gregorio, who ends up uniting all the Bronx bikers gangs who are targeted for extermination by psycho cop Hammer "the Exterminator", played by real life Bronx boy Vic Morrow, hired by the Manhattan Corp.to get Anne back home even if she doesn't wan't to go! Trash for his part doesn't come across as a hard as nails outlaw biker but more like a wimpy ballet dancer which in fact the person who played him, Di Gregorio, actually was. Stiff as a board and walking around as if he's wearing a tight brassiere Gergorio, who was 16 when the movie was made, reads his lines as if he were reading cue cards and has a mop of unkempt hair that any member of Hair Club of America would be green with envy of.There's also Trash's comrade in arms Orge, Fred "The Hammer" Williamson, the self proclaimed "King of the Bronx" who's, together with Trash, to take on Hammer and his gestapo-like cops with his main squeeze Witch, Betty Dessy, in the films flaming and final sequence. As for nut-job Hammer he gets more and more crazier as he succeeds in his mission in wiping out all the Bronx biker gangs and getting Anne back home to her luxury townhouse, that she discarded for a burnt out Bronx tenement, in Manhattan.**SPOILERS*** In the end it's the brutal and brainless Hammer who screws up the whole operation in rescuing Anne from her biker friends. Flushed with victory by having slaughtered almost all the outlaw bikers, including Orge, with his flame-throwing stormtroopers Hammer stupidly exposes himself to enemy fire and ends up getting whacked in the process! What was even far more ridicules on Hammer's part is that the very reason he and his gang of psycho cops were sent in into the burnt out Bronx in order to rescue Anne turned into a total disaster! In Hammer and his men ending up killing Anne together with almost the entire, of what was still left, of the Bronx's population!
View MoreWell, it's been a few months since I've seen something as downright poor as "1990: The Bronx Warriors." I'd compare it to Bruno Mattei's "Rats." Plot: The year is 1990. The Bronx, NY has turned into a 'violent wasteland' mostly comprised of sissies riding rollerskates, bikers with brand new, sparkling clean Levi's, and a bunch of horribly costumed 'gangsters.' An obvious homosexual male named 'Trash,' leads the biker gang known as The Riders. They have no real motive or mission, they just live in construction sites and act stupid, not really committing any crime or doing anything interesting. A woman, who happens to be the heiress of a huge corporation, flees to the Bronx so she doesn't become a 'puppet' and The Riders, specifically Trash take a liking to her. A guy named Hammer, who is hired by the corporation, tries to take out the Riders and pretty much succeeds in the end, eliminating everyone cool in the film and leaving the wimpy, weepy Trash to finish him off.The movie had such potential as a screenplay written by the amazing Dardano Sachetti, but in the hands of Castellari, this turkey doesn't even come out cooked. There are holes, acting that is on-par with a high school play, and stretches of sheer yawn-inducing dialog that the whole thing makes you scratch your head and wonder- could these people really be serious here? There isn't enough gore to make it cool, the costumes are atrocious, and throughout the film we see life going on as normal around the actors. (Cars going by on bridges and highways, kids playing basketball, old people walking the street, etc.) The Bronx hardly seems like a 'wasteland' and aside from the horribly costumed gangsters and 'scavengers,' the only thing wasteful about this film is the fact that money was spent making it. Look for some especially horrible acting from the guy who plays Trash when he forces some tears out in a few scenes. God, it was like watching a student film. What happened, Enzo?"Escape From New York" it ain't. Italian horror buffs and vintage exploitation junkies can by all means skip this one. For a better example of Castellari's genius, see "The Big Racket" instead.2 out of 10, kids.
