Well Deserved Praise
Don't Believe the Hype
Did you people see the same film I saw?
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
View MoreDhanush, take a bow. Shruti, feel free to join in. I don't really know why this movie was named 3, but my 3 would be Dhanush, Shruti and the music. This movie transforms scenes familiar to any Indian teenager into a moving tale of love and leaves your heart aching for the characters. Masala flicks be damned, if this is the direction Indian cinema is headed towards, stop the train cause i'm all abroad. Not worth missing. The music sets the mood and moves your soul into the capable hands of the lead actors who don't waste any time squeezing out pain and joy and the rest of the emotional spectrum from the viewers. The director, Aishwarya Dhanush made no mistakes with the casting choices. I don't really see any other actors who could have breathed such life into the lead characters. Supporting actors pull off their jobs with élan.Really makes you appreciate the talent pool in the Indian film industry.Keep up the good work people. You just raised the bar for south Indian filmmakers.
View MoreMoonu is a heart-warming story about a couple and a friend dealing with a mental disorder. Dhanush, the protagonist, does a wonderful job portraying a man split between love and necessity. He pushes himself to embody different personalities all in one movie. His supporting friend, played by Siva Karthikeyan, holds the weight of the movie on his shoulder. Without him guiding the viewers as to what is happening to Dhanush, one can feel as if Dhanush has inexplicably lost his mind. Shruti Hassan, as promised, embodies a role that she has never portrayed before. Playing a sweet and understanding wife, she tries to share her husband's sorrow and pain, only to be rejected. However, her crying can somewhat be irritating at times. The first half the movie was very smooth and fast paced. It was entertaining and the audience could actually feel the love and joy between the two characters. As the movie progressed, it turned dark; however it was also very slow moving. The transition of explaining how Dhanush's disorder came about seemed to abrupt, kind of confusing the viewer as to how this disorder comes about. Some scenes could have been edited towards the end to help pace the movie. The climax is one of the most memorable scenes, summing up the dilemma Dhanush had been feeling all this time. The background score was very beautiful. It really enhanced the emotions of the movie. Anirudh Ravichander definitely has potential. "Kannazhaga" and "Why This Kolavari Di?" were the highlights of the film.Besides the obvious message that "Suicide is not an option" the movie also discusses the importance of communication among husband and wife. Gone are the days where men try to hide their problems to protect their wives. As seen in this film, it can cause friction, making the wife feel unwanted. And at the same time, a wife wants to be let in, to show that she will stand by her husband, through thick and thin.Overall, this movie is worth watching. It focuses more on characters, than an actual plot. Aishwarya Dhanush, as her directorial debut, chose to showcase a film that is different from mainstream cinema. As a first timer, she understands how to project her vision onto the screen. If a few rough edges are smoothed out, I think we have another successful director in coming years.
View More"3" is nothing but a couple's attempt at feeding the narcissism of the husband, here by couple I meant Dhanush & Aishwarya Dhanush. That they have taken recourse to their half-backed knowledge of Psychiatry is despicable. It is stupid & irresponsible on the part of the makers indulging in such appalling disservice to Mental health system by time & again portraying Psychiatric illness in poor light & thus perpetuating stigma. Trying to demonize a disorder like Bipolar Affective Disorder which is one of those disorders which has a very good prognosis is disgraceful. It is a wannabe Selvaraghavan movie. Right from the first frame till the last there is semblance of all Selvarghavan movies minus the emotional connectivity which used to be so effortlessly generated in his movies. It is a wannabe "different " movie. The makers seem to have ventured into the movie with idea of making a "different" movie & hence tried to manipulate with the script to include many trivial "novelties" which they thought would make the movie look "different". What justification does the screenplay has for the lead pair getting married in a discotheque? What hinders makers in doing basic homework of the subject taken before starting a project. With their inadequate knowledge when they handle such sensitive subjects they do more harm than good. With all those factual inaccuracies & fallacies they have made Bipolar Affective Disorder (here they have tried to portray the most rarest of rare type "Ultra ultra rapid cycling BPAD" ) to look one of the most dangerous mental illness one would have & it is better to end one's life rather than getting treated with numerous options available & lead a normal life as any other. Stigma is a very difficult challenge to circumvent but irresponsible people like these by making such hedonistic movies are only going to propagate it. Dhanush has tried to showcase what all he can for no reason at all. Shruthihassan is wasted in unidimensional role in which glycerin has more work to do than herself. Sunder continues from where he left in "Mayakkam Enna" while Siva tries to ape Shanthanam. Parts between Prabhu & Dhanush are interesting. Velraj's Cinematography is good. All songs in the movie are excellent. Music is by Anirudh. He has done well in background score as well. Pity that such wonderful compositions are wasted by poor picturization. There are a few bright spots here & there. The visualization of auditory hallucination is brilliant . On the whole, "3" is artificial , factually inaccurate , irresponsible , loud & futile attempt.Bottomline : Why this Kolaveri D(hanush)
View MoreLovely movie! Breathtaking performance by Dhanush! One of the finest actors of the present generation. His character will stay with you for some time even after leaving the cinema hall. Complimented well by Shruthi & the supporting cast. Won't be surprised to see Dhanush getting his second consecutive national award. And of course Aishwarya deserves a huge applause for making all this possible.Great direction indeed. Brilliant script. The 3 stages of couple's life has been shown brilliantly.Music has already gone rage.'Po Nee Po' is a killer track. So much freshness in the music. The kid is a real talent. Long way to go in the industry. The BGM was excellent.Must watch for all movie lovers.
