It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

A LETTER FROM AYRSHIRE was released through the Children's Film Foundation banner although it's unlike any of the other CFF ones I've watched as it's a documentary travelogue rather than a piece of fictional entertainment. It's also very short, a travelogue framed by the idea of a Scottish kid writing a letter to his pen pal in New York and showing his way of life. The film works well as a way to impart information to the viewer; there are lots of different settings and backdrops and examples of daily life which is especially interesting given the passage of time since release. It's too brief to be very memorable or classic, but it's worth a look for nostalgia buffs.
