The Worst Film Ever
It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
View MoreIt's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
View MoreStory: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
I mean, seriously, HOW could SO many people downright LOATHE this film? Yes, it's a departure from director Sriram Raghavan's past work. Yes, Kareena's character Iram is (the only character) badly written. Yes, Vinod may rely too much on luck at times, but that's the thing, isn't it?It's a MOVIE, a DREAM of the director, where ANYTHING can happen. And, to that respect, Agent Vinod is actually logical, and makes sense, something rare in Indian action flicks, since most are just rip-offs of South Indian actioners, with a single hero sending 20-30 baddies flying with one, hand movement, or whatever it is.The action is frantically energetic, but still controlled and realistic. Agent Vinod has many great gunfights, and feels a lot like an action- espionage video game more than a film. Which isn't bad.Nonetheless, Agent Vinod has great characters, and a nice plot, within all that action. Saif Ali Khan is sharp as RAW agent Vinod, and the supporting cast just add even more to the entire film by their performances as the numerous villains of Agent Vinod. Ram Kapoor and Adil Hussain, especially, are great. There are only a few problems I had with Agent Vinod. The underwritten and unnecessary female part of Kareena, leading to lack of the Saif- Kareena chemistry (which seemed to be the only thing that the dumb people watching this film cared about), and the songs are mediocre, I guess. Otherwise, you've got a pretty bombastic, explosive, yet smart espionage thriller that SHOULD have been the flagship Indian secret agent bonanza at the box office, if only the consumers would have cared less for masala, and more for good cinema, that's wholly entertaining as well as smart.
View MoreSaif and Kareena first starred together in LOC(2003) followed by OMKARA and then post their relationship in TASHAN, KURBAAN and AV. Most of this films flopped terribly and proves yet again that what seems hot on newspaper may not make a hit film.Back to the movieThe film tries hard to be a Bond wannabe film but ends up being a hotshpotch. One reason many people awaited the film was because of the director Sriram Raghavan, who directed EK HASEENA THI(2004) which made people notice Saif in diverse roles and then JOHNY GADDAR(2007) which was a decent tribute cum thriller, both fared badly at the BOThis time he seems confused to make a bond film, to make a tribute film, to make a romantic thriller, to make a suspense thriller and he packs it all and makes a mess. The film starts off well, Ravi Kissen's character, Saif's intro and then his scenes with P Chopra and Kareena are well handled but Prem Chopra comes across as a joker more then menacing, similar to JG we have his old pictures hanging on the wallThe thriller element does hold you at times with some jolts but mostly it's a long drawn bond wannabe film with some clever twists and some good tributes all botched up.There are too many change of locales and introduction of new characters which gets annoying and confusing by the end. Kareena's character comes across as funny as being a Bond gal she doesn't do any stunts or any gun shooting leaving it all to her hero. The single take RAABTA song is well placed but looks comical and the film does hold you towards the end but the climax is tad too filmyDirection is decent, but the writing is a spoilt sport. Dialogues are superb Music by Pritam is superb, but most songs seem forcedSaif Ali Khan suits the role and does his part with his usual charm and charisma Kareena too does her role well Amongst the huge cast Ravi Kissan is okay in a short cameo, Prem Chopra is laughable with his weird wig and beard. Gulshan Grover does nothing in a cameo Shahbaaz Khan is good in his role Ram Kapoor is comical in a cameo, Adil Hussain does well as a villain while newcomer Anshuman Singh is good BP Singh(director of CID) leaves an impact surprisingly, In EKT Aditya Shrivastav ,while JG we had Daya and Ashwini here we have CID director himself, seems like Sriram is bringing all CID gang in his films
View MoreWell let me start by saying that this film isn't for those who think Salman Khan is the best actor in the world, Ready and body guard are best films and Item numbers and 3rd class comedy is all what film should gross on at box office. Has anyone thought about why films like 'Game, players and now Agent Vinod' are continuously failing at box office, while films with Hollywood films of similar genre gross heavily at American and UK box office its actually the problem of audience in India and in Pakistan too(cause I am from Pakistan). Agent Vinod was a film for smart audience, It was at least a try to do something out of the box. In the whole world characters like Jason Bourne (Bourne trilogy), Ethan Hunt (MI Series), James Bond (James Bond films) are liked by masses and people are mad about their upcoming films and here in subcontinent we admire heroes like those from Om Shanti Om or Ready or even Golmaal. Anyways film was above average overall, action was quite good, some camera angles were really absurd that I couldn't understand why the scene is shot in that way, but still nice try to deviate. Yes there were too much characters, I don't think that many characters were needed. It was one of the very few films where it was at least tried to keep things as natural as possible, preciously in most of the films, if the shooting location had to be abroad, to keep themselves out of effort, filmmakers use to place characters of same language on those locations, like Indian police officers at Istanbul or Malaysia but here characters were kept original. Movie duration was too long that and was unnecessarily dragged I dun know. If it's some sort of a basic requirement for all Indian films to 2 hour+ duration then it's a real bad policy. Story was good, not that compact (most probably due to duration) but overall it was good. Characters were not only too much but weren't placed that well, the raw chief didn't look like one. An intelligence chief should be smart, handsome and quick like they portrayed the ISI chief. The ISI chief was looking dashing (and being a Pakistani I liked that). But seriously guys, Raw chief should have looked like one who deserves to be on that seat. The story was little bit confusing as well, some characters weren't described that well. Also at one side it was shown that ISI chief is so smart and the agency is so strong that it helps a doctor being escaped from a British jails and then operate her for their missions and on the hand a colonel is gone rogue and ISI has no information about it, and especially in such a case where that colonel isn't trusted well within the army too. If he isn't trusted, ISI would have been keeping an eye on him or something but no such thing..so directors and writers need to go in all such details as well. Music was good but wasn't really necessary. It seems like Indians think that Mujra is the supreme part of Pakistani events. it isn't like this, we don't have Mujra's on our wedding, For God's Sake, a wedding is a family event. So (if) filmmakers go for any sequel of this film (which I don't believe they would ever think of) then all such little details should be in their mind. In One line, Agent Vinod was Bond + Bourne + BoLLYWOOD + DRAGGED + NOT WELL THOUGHT = above average..
View MoreDhritiman Chaterji and other old actors are good. Old is gold. Saif should learn from them what is called acting. He trier to be Indian 007. But failed due to his acting and very very very poor script.the technical aspect is OK. better than other recent Indian movies. Karina is totally failed. unnecessary spoiling of bullets in over the movie. overall it is a total failures. According to Raghavan, Agent Vinod is not a remake of the 1977 action film of the same name. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, he described it as "a realistic film [...with????] full of action pieces, thrills and characters. According to box office it proved that it is a total fail."Saif Ali Khan's home production failed miserably at box office and failed to even recover its cost. This was a huge setback for Saif who invested his 2 years in it and one more flop for real life couple Saif and Kareena."
