In the backdrop of a receding summer, with the aid of some brilliant chess moves, the life of a woman and the different men in her lives take centre stage. The film's screenplay is written by noted author and filmmaker P. Padmarajan's son Anantha Padmanabhan and is based on his own novelette titled Venalinte Kalaneekkangal.

Clever, believable, and super fun to watch. It totally has replay value.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.

Starting off with some substance, August Club takes its audience to thrive into a pool of boredom, made possible by dull music, repeatability & hollow story. The mystery behind the mind of a married woman, played by Rima Kallignal, comes into picture as she tries to fight monotony in her life. She is very good, and so are her co-actors. The subtlety of the subject, of which the central theme is based on the game of chess, goes beyond its walls, but towards the climax, nothing seems to gel right. Had the characters "acted" and showed what they had implied, it would have made a meaningful watch. But, it strives to excel & loses its queen. Thilakan should have stopped acting just before this movie & turned down this film. May he RIP!Huge goofs all through the movie & heavy use vulgarity & adult references, makes me wanna rate it a pitiless 2.1/10. The debut makers need to add in some more potential in to their story, plot & setup. The plot can be monotony, of course, but unfortunately the styling is same, as well.BOTTOM LINE: Not recommended. It would be fun for chess & philosophy fanatics. Can be watched with a typical Indian family? NOProfanity: Strong | Vulgarity: Critical | Nudity: No | Foreplay/Mouth- Kiss: Mild | Sex: No | Smoking/Alcohol: Strong | Drugs: No | Violence/Gore: No
