It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

I'm not going to spin a yarn for you here, this is not a must see movie. First off, there is no universe where Russell is more fair than Palmer. Character-shmaracter, that is just too fantastic a fairy tale. There is no second, that's pretty much the only real fail. The show has some FX, delicious eye candy AND conjures up some decent chuckles. It is not the best of his comedies but it's no Grown Ups 2, either. This is definitely worth seeing and easily watchable every 2 - 3 years.

I picked it up from the DVD section on a whim, and I have to admit, I wasn't all that disappointed. Yes, it's cute and obvious and at certain points utterly illogical (He hires the evil villain and the evil villain's girlfriend? Seriously?)... but if you just ride with it and see how they pull off some of the plot points, it's rather goofy fun.The only place I wish they'd spend more than half an hour writing the script was during the school scene, where what was supposed to be reality seriously turned into fantasy, all the way up to the concluding knock out. There was no tension with the kids inside: that might as well not even happened. But aside from that, it's a lovely little charmer when you want a feels-good kind of flick.

I bought this film in a weak minded moment, despite the fact that I really can't abide Russell Brand in general, but I eventually got round to watching it. And it is great fun! It's a charming family comedy with a little romance, and a lot of good clean slapstick that everyone can laugh at! I would have watched it sooner if I had known it starred Guy Pearce as a stiff-neck! It has some other familiar faces too. It is over all, great fun with no nastiness. I would have liked to have seen more of Courtney Cox though, as I've had a soft spot for her since seeing her in '3000 Miles To Graceland'. The interaction between Adam Sandler and the kids is charming, and the actors playing the kids did well in spite of their young ages.
