In America, we define ourselves in the superlative: we are the biggest, strongest, fastest country in the world. Is it any wonder that so many of our heroes are on performance enhancing drugs? Director Christopher Bell explores America's win-at-all-cost culture by examining how his two brothers became members of the steroid-subculture in an effort to realize their American dream.

One of my all time favorites.

Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

I watched the movie which I thought was made without bias and presented both points of view well, the movie respected people's opinions about the use of steroids while discussing the dangers and myths that surround the use of them. After watching the movie I was left with thinking about Smelly's issues, like most people in today's world the expectations that surround us are so often the same; be the best, to better the last or to be something, we are made to believe that by doing this we will find the happiness that we have always dreamed of, we will find the pride that we think wished our family had for us. For the first 32 years of my life I was looking for this magical result, I was striving to be better, I owned sports cars, I ran businesses, I even moved to Indonesia so I could have two wives, I had a holiday home on a tropical island but whatever I thought I accomplished there didn't seem to be any change in how content I was, how happy I felt, how successful I believed I was. All of the things I was told, all the things my society around me endorsed as being successful were in fact results which placed me in more stressful situations. At the age of 33 I lost a friend of mine and then another shortly after, it got me thinking "what does make me happy?" I'm sure it can differ slightly for some but for me it was providing a great life for the people around me, not with money but with advice and understanding to help provide them with the best life possible, this brought me pride, this was truly something to be proud of. Hitting a record number of home runs or running the fastest ever is great and for sure shows commitment and focus but is it as important as helping somebody understand what life is about and then having them living the best life possible. I believe Smelly is in a situation that many of us are or have been but the difference is he is in the position of having the chance of helping a lot of people learn this lesson. I believe life is about the people we love, the people we respect and the people that respect us. People normally do the wrong thing but what they do is normally with good intentions. Smelly I hope you get around to reading this because you are the man, you are the man that has the opportunity of finding the pride you want so badly, by helping your family have the best life possible you will have helped your most loved ones to find true happiness themselves; plus if you are up for a challenge you may find a way of helping a lot more people, you have already discovered what the most important thing is in life, pride, so now discover the pride you get by being the role model those around you need. You have unknowingly shown the world how brave you are by speaking openly about your wants and desires, your weaknesses and by doing so you have gained the respect of millions of viewers, now you have a unique opportunity, you can confirm to them that you have gained understanding and wisdom and become the stability of those around you! You may not understand my ravings just yet, the time can come for us at different times but for most of us it doesn't come at all, I believe your so close to discovering how you can find the most pride ever!

I liked the movie, it showed some interesting perspectives, but one fact bugged me more than anything else; the sheer number of different NFL team hats he wears. I know he wears a Colts, Saints, Chargers, Steelers and Raiders hat, and I think I am forgetting a few. This is the most troubling part of the film for me, as the credibility of someone who endorses multiple teams (within the same division no less) is far from stellar. I need someone with more time on their hands to get to the bottom of this mystery and let the world know who this cat really roots for. This is so completely irrelevant that I have to hope it was an inside joke or easter egg kind of deal, but i find it ridiculous.

I started training at 13 in my basement has many of you i am sure, then moved on to the real thing at 16 in a real gym, where i was exposed to steroid use and abuse for many years.I was very impressed by the steroid bodies that i saw, and it was always a chock to me when i saw one of theses guys go off them, and become all normal again. I was also very afraid when i learned that the only way to administrate steroid with the least side effect was with a needle into the buttock. I was scared of needles.I was able to build my body naturally from a very skinny 138 pounds to 210 pounds without the use of steroids. When i turned 28 years old i had some saved money and decided that it might be time to try steroids once sense for all. I started a basic mass cycle deca durabolin, testosterone . The cycle lasted 8 weeks, i had cut down to 174 pounds at that time doing lots of boxing etc.I was quite amazed that at the end on my cycle i had ballooned up to 212 pounds, and i look a lot like i used to before, chubby not cut up like the pros, i had gained a lot of fat too, maybe i should have used an AI.This was my only steroid cycle i did. I was introduce to steroids once more at 39 years of age, but this time it was not to gain muscles nor loose weight, but to fix an injury and chronic pains that have lasted for more then 10 years.I started a treatment called prolotherapy where we used a water based testosterone suspension, some growth hormones, dextrose and Novocaine vitamin B and b12 injected into the laxer ligament and that worked wonders to fix me.Last night i got to see bigger stronger faster for the first time and enjoyed it a lot giving it a 10 rating because everything that is in there is the truth but this phenom is not only in America but in Canada too.I was glad that they showed not everyone using steroids will get ripped, some will retain fat has well. Also lots of death are not associated with steroid usage but with narcotics, depression pills and more, its the whole combination of them.I am now 40 years old back in training, i train for fun, i did pro wrestling when i was younger but its not longer one of my dreams, i knew when i got into this it was only for fun and never had any ambition to reach the WWE.I have been using growth hormone 1IU per day for 6 weeks now since this hormone start to decline at 25, and very low dose of testosterone i have a prescription for both and am check by a medical doctor. I feel that there should be more HRT out there hormonal therapy for us older men, because i feel a lot better, i sleep better, my body recuperates faster and i feel like i was 18 again. The movie said it best, Arnold, Hogan and Stallone did what they had to do to make it big, most of the people are uneducated about steroids, and they will speak false information about them and the lie goes on.WWE has the no drug policy apparently Randy Orton has been cough using steroids wish is a oral version of testosterone, i was very surprised that they actually did something about it but there is a lot more ground to cover because in pro wrestling everyone is using steroids, same has in MMA' but only the smart ones never get cough.

Loved it. Enlightening. Controversial. Introspective. I am still thinking about it two days later.Who knew about the Air Force and musicians--not me? Great stuff about Orin Hatch and making your own supplements.I loved the deleted scenes too and learned even more watching them.Wow--1,000 hours of film (600 archival and 400 original) edited down to just 106 minutes. Great work team! I would have liked to know more about Arnold and the side effects of his steroid use (penile implant? sterile?). Also, why does the Bell Family have such body issues? It is not just America--there is something else going on in the Bell family that needs to be explored.Thank you for this film.
