Best movie ever!

Sameer Callahan

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

There is horror, but I would use the label surrealism. There are conversations and images that invite you to bring your own interpretations. There are subjects of The Beyond that we just aren't equiped to understand, even when we do get glimpses, and I think this film presents that well. It is slow, and the ending is non-conclusive, so if that bothers the viewer, not the movie for you. If you are open to unique ideas and heavy symbolism, it is extremely enjoyable.

BLACK GHOSTS is another example of a garishly-shot indie horror flick, strong on atmosphere but low on general production and technical values. The plot would be stretched out for a ten-minute short but here feels ridiculously flimsy. A woman dies and her girlfriend is unable to come to terms with the death, so she decides to open a portal into the netherworld in a bid to see her again. Unfortunately this leads to her being haunted by sinister spirits. There's a lot of primary colours and general darkness, but bad acting and a lack of cohesion that renders it very testing on the viewer's patience.
