A lot of fun.

It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

Juvenile Deliqnency is always a good movie subject because you can do so much with it. In this movie, they went all out showing armed robbery, assault, gangs, drinking, mayhem, attempted rape and even what appears to be attempted murder. Of course New York city is the prime area for all this and the 50's times make it real enough. Being a non-conformist and a rebel was considered cool, a badge of honor and the way to be. The problem was that if you got too good at it you didn't graduate so the kids pushed it to the limit to get away with as much as they could within limits. Here, some teachers, a school principal and others take a stand and try to turn it around. One man does an exceptional job of it but at a cost which turned out to be worth it but could just as easily taken his life. At some point in the movie, one of the wayward kids says something like this when talking to a teacher after school: out here, this is my classroom and I can flunk you for real which has a chilling affect of realism. Reaching children of any age takes skill and commitment and the this movie makes that point and then some. Enjoy the supporting cast. Good snack movie and of course with a tasty drink. I never cared much for school because I didn't understand what was required or why. The school of life appealed to me more...enjoy

This is an original classic picture dealing with a teacher fighting troubled students and violent confrontation in the classroom titled ¨Blackboard jungle¨ written by Evan Hunter and displays a very good cast such as with Glenn Ford , Anne Francis , Louis Calhern , Sidney Poitier , Vic Morrow , Paul Mazurski , among others . Being very worthy in its intention and including faith in American youth . It begins with the following sentences : ¨Today we are concerned with juvenile delinquency , its causes and its effects . We are especially concerned when this delinquency boils over into our schools , the scenes and incidents depicted here are fictional . However , we believe that public awareness a first step toward a remedy for any problem and with this faith that ¨Blackboard jungle¨ was produced . It is a violent and strong movie by its time about a bunch of cruel teens who terrorize the entire school and a new English teacher at an inner-city school is determined to do his job , despite resistance from both students and faculty . Tough as well as thoughtful entertainment , set in the fifties , and dealing with Richard Dadier (Glenn Ford) , a man happily married to a pregnant wife called Anne (Anne Francis). He is a new English teacher who has his own ideas of discipline . He goes to work at an inner city as well as violent, unruly high school that is like nothing he has ever seen before , as he must face off a motley crew of adolescents in the classroom . Ring leader is a student psychopath (Vic Morrow) , a baddie who doesn't seem human , he leads his groupies on a reign of terror through the high school halls . There takes place some violent events and a police inspector starts investigating with no results . The ominous group carries out threats , robbing , then the English teacher pulls off his owns objectives , leading to an ever higher tension . As a high school teacher determines to enforce law and order by using all kind of means .Well-remembered violent school drama from the 50s in which teenager gangs terrorize the entire high school and surroundings executing crimes and violence at random . Interesting script , screen-written by the Principal of a teacher's harrowing experiences in N.Y. school system . This entertaining as well as thought-provoking film contains thrills , intense drama , upsetting scenes , and with quite convincing , studious atmosphere . In fact , due to the film violent content had great notoriety and important impression as well as some problems with censorship . This was the first movie to feature Rock music , as ¨Bill Haley's ¨Rock around the clock¨ , being played on the opening credits . Highlights of the movie include baddie knife-wielding Vic Morrow taking on Glenn Ford in some breathtaking scenes . Nice acting by Glenn Ford as an idealistic teacher in a slum area who fights doggedly to dominate his unruly students . Memorable support cast , full of veteran actors such as Margaret Hayes , Richard Kiley , Louis Calhern , Emile Meyer , Richard Deacon , John Hoyt and newcomers such as Sidney Poitier , Rafael Campos , Paul Mazursky , many of them in brief roles , and look for Virginian's James Drury and Jamie Farr billed as Jameel Farah . Special mention to Vic Morrow playing as one of the worst villains of the cinema history . Evocative cinematography in Black and White by Russell Harlan , though is also shown in horrible computer-colored version . The picture was well directed by Richard Brooks and achieved great success . Rating : Above average for its thrilling premise as well as hard-hitting entertainment and had the youthful ripping up the seats on its first release . It was followed by ¨Class 1984¨ with Marl L. Lester with Perry King , Michael J Fox , Timothy Van Patten , this is a bloody and gory remake update ; continued by ¨Class of 1999¨ by Mark Lester with Malcolm McDowell , Bradley Gregg , Tracy Lind , Stacy Keach , Pam Grier , Patrick Kilpatrick ; and another sequel titled ¨Class of 1992¨ by Spiro Razatos with Sasha Mitchell , Nick Cassavetes ,and Richard Hill .

. . . as rookie English instructor Richard "Rick" Dadier is assaulted multiple times by the switchblade-toting gangsters who control his all-male home room class of 35 throughout most of BLACKBOARD JUNGLE. In addition to seriously wounding Rick twice, these young ruffians terrorize his pregnant wife, nearly toppling a car atop her in one of this film's first scenes. The audience has to watch this story unfold with bated breath, wondering if the hardened hooligans will go all Charlie Manson on the expectant Anne, and slash the baby from her tummy. Even after Rick and his milquetoast fellow rookie teacher Joshua are severely beaten in an alley by their students after school, Rick stubbornly refuses to enter his classroom "packing." A U.S. Navy veteran certified to teach under the G.I. Bill, Rick apparently ducked out of firearms training during Boot Camp. This tale is based upon "actual events" that took place MORE THAN 50 YEARS AGO! Today's headlines prove that schools are deadlier than ever now. That's why every American secondary level classroom needs to be equipped with a semi-automatic "Smart Gun," in the form of a Bushmaster with built-in Biogenic safeguards insuring that only the teacher can use it.

Blackboard Jungle was a harsh movie that exampled the dangers and harshness of teaching kids that have been inundated in a mad entity of racism, violence, and delinquency. Blackboard Jungle is a wondrous movie with real life themes that have been and will continue to be important to society. This movie is a great example of not only the harsh lives people are forcibly born into, but the lives that are affected by these people's actions. This is initially displayed when Artie West and his gang attack Dadier and his friend on the way home from a bar. It's incredible and discouraging to notice these incidents still issues today, 60 years later. Very refined and straight to the point in every scene, it doesn't lead you on pointless tangents that don't further the story. Every scene digs deeper and deeper into the problem and does so elegantly and smoothly. Where Dadier succeeded, other teachers failed. This movie shows the discrimination more among race than gender, though that's also an underlying theme. Miller, a student content with dropping out early, realizing that his schooling will get him nowhere in life solely based on his color, is a prime antagonist until he and Dadier begin to talk and see the world from each other's point-of-view. Intelligent for a boy his age, Miller sees the error of his ways and decides to help his teacher any way he's able to, just like in the finale when he protected Dadier from students trying to attack him from the back.Though gender is a bit less of an issue, it's still a bit undermining the way Anne is portrayed in this film. She has had one miscarriage before and is being torn apart by letters of threats and lies, saying that her husband is having an affair. Anne is showed to be a weak, unresting woman with insecurities to tire any man out. Fear is one thing humans can never truly escape, but she takes the word to a whole new level, having a premature birth due to the fear of her husband cheating, rather than simple talking to him more about when given the chance. Not all women are weak individuals who rely on their man to keep them from losing sanity and she was portrayed as a human who could hardly exist without someone giving her constant watch. Finally, this movie comes to a close with Dadier standing up to his most troublesome student in a finale that, while blunt, keeps you on the end of your seat and lusting for the next scene. If you watch this movie with an open-mind, you begin to realize things that you might not before, you begin to understand people's feelings, the sorrow, fear, and anger behind everything, whether it be Millers decision to drop out or Dadiers resolution to quit his dangerous occupation. This entire movie is situationally ironic in and of itself in the fact that it took ex- military personnel to calm the storm that was a gang of trifling students.
