I love this movie so much
SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?
View MoreExcellent but underrated film

View More(Credit to IMDb) Three friends out to disprove cannibalism meet two men on the run who tortured and enslaved a cannibal tribe to find emeralds, and now the tribe is out for revenge. What an utter disgrace this movie is. As a guy who hated Cannibal Holocaust, I'm not sure why I decided to revisit this cheap knockoff. Lenzi clearly made this to cash in on the Cannibal Holocaust controversy. This was around the time where there were movies about cannibalism. Not only is the film grainy, but painfully dull. When you aren't busy being bored half to death, Lenzi tries to repulse you by killing real animals. This movie is a gorefest, but it is NOT enjoyable. Lenzi's blatant in your face direction during the animal killings angered me beyond belief. There are extreme close-ups that made me wince and look away. How could a man be so cruel? It tries so hard to be offensive that it becomes incorrigible. For those that wonder, there is a lot more. Innards are eaten, birds are eaten, a penis is eaten and castrated, etc. I wasn't able to enjoy it. The dubbing is predictably atrocious and the dialog is inane. The performances are nothing noteworthy. Lombardo's intense performance is probably the only solid thing in this movie. He's a bit TOO intense actually. Ostensibly, he clashed with Lenzi on set. Can't say as I blame him. Lenzi is a jackass. Most of the characters were unlikable. Anything else positive to say? The cinematography was decent. You may need a shower after this movie. There is nothing redeeming about this movie! Not a damn thing. All it did was P**** me off and nearly put me to sleep when it wasn't busy being offensive. I love horror movies that cross the line. This movie goes beyond that line and accomplishes nothing, IMO. I'm sure some sick puppies will enjoy this sort of thing. All the more power to you!DUD
View MoreI recently watched Cannibal Holocaust and, in some strange way, actually enjoyed it. I'd heard that Cannibal Ferox was similar, so I thought I'd give that one a go too.Ferox has the tagline 'banned in 31 countries' on the front and all I can say is that, now it appears to have got a mainstream release, they must have taken a lot of it out. The version I saw ran at about 83 minutes and was not just bad, but pretty tame. The plot centres around a budding scientist, dragging her brother and her friend to the Amazon in order to prove that cannibalism doesn't exist. Once they get there, they meet the most psychotic drug dealer there is and decide it would be a good idea to team up with him. Unfortunately, said dealer has slaughtered half a tribe of natives around here in pursuit of some emeralds. And, guess what, the natives want their revenge.I couldn't really see why some people seem to enjoy this. Even if it had its full compliment of gore, it was pretty awful. The acting was bad (okay, so horror films never normally have Oscar-worthy performances in, but this went even lower than normal); it was almost as if they were trying to be over-the-top and bring a parody edge to it (not that I can find any actual evidence to back this up - it just seemed this way). The 'heroes' are too stupid to like (and that's just the most likable ones!), the drug dealers are the type you want to see eaten alive. And, while these hapless souls are trudging through muddy swamps in the Amazon, there's a subplot about the police in New York trying to track down one of the dealers. This wasn't necessary, as, by now, you're probably gagging for whatever 'pay-off' is going to come at the end of the film. When it does come, it's over before it gets going.Like I say, I could be being unfair on Ferox, as I've clearly only watched a heavily edited version. However (and I never thought I'd say this), if you only want to watch one gut-wrenching sick cannibal film about people eating each other, stick with Cannibal Holocaust.
View MoreCannibal Ferox was made as a response to the huge success of the controversial Cannibal Holocaust, that was a masterpiece, not just for the violence and gore, but even for it's message.Cannibal Ferox delivers nasty gore (for some reason i think that it's nastier than Cannibal Holocaust), that's why 31 countries banned it (well, some of the 31 countries actually lifted the ban) ! The musical score is awesome, Roberto Donati and Fiamma Maglione did an awesome job, the music is chilling and scary, probably, even better than the music of Cannibal Holocaust.Just like Cannibal Holocaust, we have real scenes of animal cruelty.....i am warning you, PETA members.
View MoreIt's like one of those countless age-old questions that have plagued human-kind for centuries. Which is better, Cannibal Holocaust, or Cannibal Ferox? Ultimately, it's a matter of opinion. However, Holocaust is clearly the most disturbing of the two. In fact, it's more disturbing than just about anything. It's more mean-spirited, there's more authentic animal killings, and who could forget the rapings? Cannibal Ferox, on the other hand, is simply a better movie. Considering quality, and entertainment-value, alone. Cannibal Ferox is clearly superior. And don't get me wrong, Ferox is also no slouch in the shock-value department. Umberto Lenzi's contribution to the Italian Cannibal sub-genre may be a little light on the jungle abortions, but the castrations are as lovely as ever. This one even has a story. About an Anthropologist, along with her brother and friend, who heads out to a remote part of the Amazon jungle, to disprove theories involving cannibalism among the local tribes. Obviously, the Amazon isn't the safest place to be, but you wouldn't think running into fugitive drug dealers (who are wanted for murder) would be a problem way out here. But it is. And yes, one of them is insane, with a rather nasty coke problem. And yes, Mr. coke-head has been torturing and murdering some of the natives, simply to relieve tension. And yes, if any five of these people happen to run into the now furious tribe... well, it's gonna be a long, agonizing next couple days. Drastic measures will be taken. It goes without saying that the torture and extreme gore are always appreciated, but what I like most about these movies is the gritty realism. As the viewer, it feels like you're right there with them. The claustrophobic sensation of being "stuck" is so thick, you could cut it with a knife. Just know, Cannibal Ferox, and its counter-parts aren't just shock for shock's sake, and certainly not what we refer to these days as torture-porn. These Cannibal epics, while still low-budget, and schlocky as all hell, are action-adventure epics that quickly switches to Horror mode, before you even know what hit you. And this is the point when things always get waaaaay out of hand. For more in this particular sub-genre, you've just gotta see Jungle Holocaust, and Eaten Alive, and if you can actually find it, Cannibal Holocaust: The Beginning (Bruno Mattei) is truly something to behold. So, If you're looking to explore the world of Italian Jungle Gore, Ferox would be the place to start, because, pound-for-pound, it's the best... Not that I'm an expert on this stuff, or anything. 9/10
