Sadly Over-hyped
everything you have heard about this movie is true.
View MoreEach character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
View MoreExcellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
View MoreFirst of all, not a fan of Larry David (or Jerry Seinfeld for that matter). What he considers comedy doesn't even give me the slightest feeling of comedic delight. I haven't yet watched Curb, but I'll definitely give it a try one of these days. I hope it's better than this. I'm still optimistic that Larry David could deliver one way or another, but the more I watch him perform in anything, the less I expect. People I consider funny: Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Will Ferrell, Louis CK etc. Larry David (and Jerry Seinfeld) aren't even close. Their kind of comedy is mostly for old people. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against Jewish-American comedy, because I'm sure some who reads this may think that since I'm mentioning Seinfeld in one sentence with Larry David, is because they're both Jewish-American. No, absolutely not. Their style is very similar. Many Jewish comedians are legendary in my opinion: Andy Kaufman, Jerry Lewis, Billy Crystal, Mel Brooks. I also like Brad Garrett, Seth Rogen, Sarah Silverman, Amy Schumer, Adam Sandler and Ben Stiller (their early stuff). It's just Larry David, Jerry Seinfeld, Fran Drescher, Joan Rivers or even Woody Allen I more than often can't wrap my head around, because I very rarely hear anything funny leave their mouths. It really amazes me how extremely popular and successful they are. To me, their success should be written in the dictionary, right next to *what's the definition of a paradox?*Anyway, I went a little bit off topic there. Back to Clear History: It's just not funny enough to even be considered a comedy. I'm sure that if Bill Murray had played the main role with Harold Ramis supporting and Ivan Reitman writing the script, this would've been a blast. Disappointing, considering how much comedic talent (Bill Hader, Danny McBride, Jon Hamm) and famous people (Michael Keaton, Amy Ryan, Eva Mendes, Kate Hudson) are in this. This should've been way better. 4.4/10
View MoreI looked forward to this movie having watched every episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm and never laughed more. So when I knew he was essentially playing the same character I was optimistic. What a let down, he should have played it as a different character because what makes Larry David funny in CYE is that he is comfortable in the world of wealth and leisure where things annoy him. He has an air of authority which is continually undermined by his need to confront. The cast around him are excellent. As a poor man in Marthas Vineyard he has no credibility, you feel he wouldn't be tolerated as Larry David because he has no kudos, no Seinfeld behind him. The people around him are bland except for the fantastic J.B.Smoove maybe he should have included more of the original cast. It just didn't work for me even though I wanted it to. I'm still waiting for Season 9 of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
View MoreI have seen many bad movies, but this one might be the worst. I am only going to describe the first scenes to explain my point.1st scene: Old man with (obvious) fake long hair and fake beard drives in a Porsche, listening to a song. He is pulled over by the police, who thinks he is drunk. But he is not. That is the 1st "joke" we are presented with, which is not funny, not even remotely. What is funny about a policeman thinking hes drunk but hes sober? Nothing.2nd scene: He is in his office now where he tells a nice Hispanic lady (hidden racism), that she should shampoo her hair more than once a week, because it smells. Thats the joke...he even repeats that sentence: " Twice a week---shampoo, you know?".he shampoos his hair every day. Now that is not funny or anything that is just stupid. In real life this old man has NO HAIR, but he is giving her advice about shampooing. Every Dermatologist will tell you if you shampoo you hair too much it will fall out. I could go on and on but this review would be too long.In summary this is the UNfunniest most boring and utterly stupid movie anyone has ever made.
View MoreA lot of people may or will feel like the movie is an extension of another 'Curb Your Enthusiasm.' But with so many more amazing actors & actresses added into the mix and the talent level of all of them along with the the myth himself, Larry the Legend. Brings something different. It isn't the same. Sometimes when you have a lot of different actors in a movie, there is no chemistry and it fall flat. That doesn't happen here. Now, it isn't perfect chemistry But that doesn't matter. Your not expecting it to be. This movie isn't suppose to be a blockbuster, 5 star, where the co-stars have that special something. But it works for this film. This film deserves a lot higher reviews Than some of the ones out there. I would seriously give little weight whatsoever too those 2's and 3's out there. Cause they obviously didn't get it...That, or their scale needs to be tared.
