I wanted to but couldn't!

It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.

It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film

I found this film so annoying that I stopped watching TV and went and read a book while listening to music. I wanted to shout at the TV "'phone a lawyer you idiots. I can't believe that it is based on a true story.

This is a great film. The simplicity and the wonderfully, stupid submission of the main characters is excellent. This film will surely press your buttons and you will be making comments to your television. It is said to be based on true events and with tons of stupid people out there, I believe it. Compliance is a testament to how blindly loyal some folks are to authority. That they will do anything. Including impeding their own morals and values based on a convincing, silver-tongued, smooth talker. You will feel embarrassed and uneasy while watching this movie and for that, the director gets an A+. He portrayed the vision correctly. Which made you feel what the young woman was going through. Like I said. This movie is simple and on a low budget, but the acting is great and complimentary. Ann Dowd played the store manager role superbly. She was believable and came across as a naive, do-gooder with an acceptance issue. Becky was played by Dreama Walker and as an up and coming actress, she did quite well. Compliance is a movie that I watched multiple times and would recommend to most. It's a film that touches on some gray areas and raises the blood pressure due to the total stupidity of some people's belief in all authority.

This is my first review of a movie on IMDb but I felt I had to do it due to the huge number of improper reviews that you can find all over the internet. The background: Besides being based on a true story (just Google "Compliance the real story", but only AFTER you see the movie, due to spoilers) and depicting the reality 90%, this film is a psychological drama about the obedience towards authority. As a result, Compliance is not about stupid people and is not about "it can only happen in US". Anyone who makes such claims is 1. uneducated and 2. an ignorant. Similar situations with the one in this movie can (and probably already have) happen to you at any moment.Obedience towards authority and inertia: If you want to understand the characters, you will have to read about the Milgram experiment which proved more than 50 years ago how humans can blindly obey an authority figure EVEN if the orders become at one point entirely ABSURD. I strongly recommend to do this before you watch the movie, otherwise you are at risk of finding the story unbelievable and stupid.Additionally, you will need to understand how inertia is affecting our decisions. The bottom line, no matter what one would decide at one point, the next chronological decision on that matter will most likely be made in order to confirm the previous action (long story short, once you are on a path, even if you have no logical reasons to continue, you will invent them in subconscious in order to justify your previous decisions).Bottom line: If you have no interest in human philology you will very likely find this disturbing movie boring (the entire action takes place in a small room), the action - highly improbable and the characters - plain stupid. On the other hand, if you take the time to do your research, this movie might totally change your perspective about the human behavior.

I've seen a lot of horror movies that are supposed to be scary and yet there aren't many that are as difficult to sit through as this. It was truly horrible - mainly because it's (almost completely) true (I checked online and apparently this really happened almost word for word in a McDonalds restaurant in Kentucky, USA).'Compliance' is basically about a prank call, where a man - pretending to be a police officer - phones a fast food restaurant, claiming one of the employees has stolen some money. What follows is psychological manipulation from him, as he gets the staff to make the employee's life more and more uncomfortable.Part of the problem with choosing to watch a film like this is that you'll find yourself (just like I did), constantly screaming at the characters on screen not to be so absolutely stupid. However, stupid they were in real life, so I guess the worst part about this is that people in real life obviously don't question authority. You won't enjoy this film - even if you like it (and I did in some ways). It's not a film that's meant to be enjoyed; it's there to show us just how easy it is to fool some people with minimal evidence to support their story. If you think that you can sit through an hour and a half of total - real life - torture of an innocent (if slightly naïve) girl then Compliance makes an interesting tale. It is a good film, but in a weird, unbelievably shocking kind of way.
