a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.

Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.

If you like movies with a bit of gender-bending, this is a must-see. It's almost a remake of "Some Like It Hot" with a touch of "Victor/ Victoria." Connie and Carla witness a gangland murder in Chicago and have to get out of town, just like Joe (Curtis) and Jerry (Lemmon) in "Some Like It Hot." They make it to California, where they find work at a night club -- a drag night club -- as drag queens. In other words, they're women impersonating men who are impersonating women. The hilarity ensues.Unfortunately, it probably won't be remembered as well as the other more renowned gender-benders like "Some Like It Hot," "Tootise" and "Mrs. Doubtfire."

This movie was literally the most fun I've had watching a movie in a long time! It's refreshingly different from the mainstream and made me smile, laugh out loud, and sit on the edge of my seat. Nia Vardalos is brilliant! The script is great with lots of little jokes and inside jokes, and once you discover them you will laugh even harder at a moment which was already funny. But, other than writing a great script, Nia Vardalos(Connie) and Toni Colette(Carla) did a fantastic job of acting their corny, cute characters. Another great asset to the movie was the great chemistry between Vardalos and David Duchovny. I loved this movie, and hope that you too will enjoy this spunky story of two women pretending to be men pretending to be women.

I saw my first drag-queen show at age 12, in Almelo, Holland in 1945. We just had been liberated by the 1st Canadian Division. The three hulks that entertained the troops as female impersonators were stationed at our home. Therefore we were allowed, as civilians, to see the show. I'll never forget the high boisterous laugh of my younger sister when she recognized the three drag queens on stage as the men, staying with us. As this film clearly demonstrates, behind the facade of the drag queen is a man, a human being, looking not only for an identity, but for recognition of that identity. Especially by his family and friends, who frequently reject him, once they find out. The same rejection and denial experienced by so many AIDS patients. The director weaves aptly, throughout this tragi-comedy a delightful barrage of Broadway songs and performances. He could not have chosen a better cast for Connie and Carla as Nia Vardalos (born around the same time in Winnipeg, Manitoba as my oldest son) and Toni Collette. The appearance of Debbie Reynolds (born in El Paso, TX, where my family spent a great ten years of their lives) was a pleasant surprise. You want to see this movie at least twice.

This movie is hilarious! Sure it's corny... but I haven't seen a stage show yet that wasn't. The over-blown drama is exactly the way it is in plays, musicals, and dinner theatre. Without the big drama... it's just another movie taking up shelf space at your local video store.Adjusting to the concept of drag queens was strange at first, but by the end of the movie you actually develop an understanding of and insight into why they are who they are and why they do what they do. In the movie they refer to it as an 'art form of being true to one's self' ...and even I can relate to that. The best-friend relationship between Connie and Carla really carries the movie, not to mention all the different characters and the facial expressions they use. The characters also show growing pains along with their growth, which stays true to the drama of Broadway shows. This movie is about two girls having a dream, and overcoming the obstacles of realizing that dream. It's obvious that these actors loved doing this movie and had fun while doing it. This movie has surprisingly become one of my favorite movies. Just watch it and give it a chance... you will adore it.
