SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?
View MoreLack of good storyline.
Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
View MoreIn truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
View MoreThis is so funny - I think I laughed so hard I couldn't even hear what's next.Don't let the bad reviews fool you. You've really got to have a sense of humor to appreciate the multiple layers of parodies on a bad relationship. The many things our other 'destined' half tries to make us do (or special someone in your life who has a plan for you). The twist ending is also great! Although a bit predictable. Malin delivers one of her best portraits as the neurotic thirty-four year-old driven mad by societal expectations. Tyler is not bad, but there's something about him that makes him completely forgettable. The rest of the cast is all right except for Lucy. It's great! A rare find!
View MoreI wanted to watch this film because I'm a big fan of Tucker and Dale vs. Evil and absolutely loved Tyler Labine's performance in it. In Cottage Country Labine plays Todd who is sort of similar to the character he was in Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil though he's nowhere near as funny in this. Malin Akerman's acting was pretty good in this but I didn't feel the kind of chemistry between them as I did between Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk in Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. Todd's parents' are really good and they bring some good tension to the movie. Lucy Punch is pretty terrible though. The movie's main problem is that it doesn't quite know what it tries to be. At the start you think it might be a sort of a romantic comedy, at times it's a dark comedy and partly it focuses on the crime story. The laughs come mostly from the few shocks the movie delivers and not so much from the writing. Some of the plot devices were a bit gimmicky, especially the part where Todd suddenly starts seeing dead people and telling secrets to people who shouldn't know them. The Jewish kid was also a bit over the top with his committed detective work during the party. In the end, it's a watchable film if you have nothing else to do but I wouldn't go out of my way to get my hands on it. It's a shame though because the movie's premise had good potential to it. With a bit different script and better writing the movie could've been much better.
View MoreFirstly i would like to make some clarifications regarding the genre of this movie.I don't think this movie should be put under the category of action or comedy or thriller, if i was the owner of this title i would have put it under the category of "BOREDOM". This movie definitely fails to thrill and there was hardly one scene which made me laugh, So if anyone is expecting to have a good laugh or thrill by watching this movie "Cottage Country" is not the right movie to watch. There is nothing different or new in this movie, this movie is nothing but bits and pieces of other horror movies put together. Tyler Labine's performance is the only positive factor in this movie and that's the reason why i am rating it with 3 stars and not 1. My advice to those who are thinking about picking this movie is to omit this movie and pick another.
View MoreFirst of all this is a noir comedy. I think it deserves a 5 out of 10 , which means it's almost watchable. Don't expect a silly comedy , you'll be disappointed. It has lightweight psychological drama in it. Nice scenery and the music background was OK. In the start of the film i thought Tyler Labine was a wannabe Jack Black but he deserves a little more. Malin Akerman was acting great in this movie which i didn't see it coming in the beginning of the film (Warning: it is not good if she reminds you of your girlfriend). Lucy Punch was terrible. It is real tragedy to see her in a comedy and it is not the first time this happens. It is definitely better to watch it without even reading the storyline. Recommended time to watch: Sunday evening
