One of the worst movies I've ever seen
Masterful Movie
A lot of fun.
It is not only a funny movie, but it allows a great amount of joy for anyone who watches it.
View MoreA bizarre and awful... something or other. I guess the best way to describe it is "80s movie." It kind of starts off as a romantic comedy with some science fiction pieces, but it drifts into a weird melodrama as it nears the end. Peter O'Toole stars and really isn't that bad, but he can't possibly elevate this terrible script. He plays a professor who does odd, possibly illegal experiments. He wants to clone his long dead wife, for one. He hires Vincent Spano as his research assistant, but Spano doesn't do much besides fall for fellow student Virginia Madsen (who was quite cute at 24). O'Toole meets up with self-described nymphomaniac Mariel Hemmingway, who agrees to donate an egg so O'Toole can regrow his wife in a test tube. Hemmingway sets her sights on becoming O'Toole's wife (I guess Woody Allen was too young for her?). The comedy is lame. The drama elicits more laughs. Near the end, Madsen randomly falls into a coma and Spano overacts by her side. Hemmingway is really annoying in her 1980s proto-manic pixie dreamgirl role. David Ogden Stiers makes for an uninteresting villain. Just a huge mess.
View MoreIt was a late night back in the 1980's when I sat down with my now deceased father and watched an unknown movie entitled "The Creator". I changed that evening because so many issues about faith and future were summed up in the relationships and the softness of the movie. I still show it in the VHS version to my students in my trainings as a family therapist. Some of the negative reviews are clearly not understanding the depth of the movie and the dynamics that play out as truth becoming simple and yet so profound. As an alumni of Duquesne University, there is quantitative research and qualitative research. If you dismiss this classic story then the "identified villain" is your sponsor of quantitative research and your pursuit of "small pictures" I hope will feed your confused soul. Fear in the place of emotional integrity happens everyday when we justify our "spectator" ship as goal when the game is on the field. Peter was never a struggling actor in his career and to imply that is just foolish ignorance. To follow quality in life's research is the point to the picture. To criticize a messy kitchen after a good meal is just ungrateful and a dis-ease of today's pathetic stance in society. Mr. Spano, Ms. Madsen and Ms. Hemmingway showed human qualities, not cookie cutter textbook acting. If the opportunity would present itself, I would love the chance to assist in the sequel to this heart-expanding movie.Always a hand raised to Peter and his crew in the making of this gem of a movie experience.
View MoreThis is hands down my favorite film! I rarely watch a film more than once, but 'Creator' is a film that I have watched over and over again and will never tire of it or the feelings it provokes.I don't think I can top the reviews already written and was delighted to know that others felt the way that I did about this film.Romantic, heartwarming, profound, funny, thought-provoking are just a few words that come to mind to describe this film. The character's all work so well together and the film follows the book very closely. What can I say about Peter O'Toole that hasn't been said before, he is truly at the top of my list for greatest actor in the industry. A sexy man in his 70's? Yep! I hope our screen's will be graced yet again with another movie by this fine actor. For those who have not seen this under-rated film, try to get a copy of it for your classic film library. Be prepared to laugh, cry and think when seeing this delightful, profound film. This is a film you can sit down and watch with you children and grandchildren.....and dear "Lucy", that we all could be loved as this "character" was loved.
View MoreI was very surprised to see the range of reviews this movie received. Especially the ones from 1-5. That just does not make sense to me. The characters of Harry and Boris were fantastic in this movie. The relationship they formed with one another and the ones they had with there love ones was so touching and heart warming. I admit that when I was told about the outline of the movie I thought it was stupid but then thankfully I was not a stubborn person about it and watched it anyway. I am your typical guy from Brooklyn/Staten Island and I will admit that this movie made me cry, not as much as I cried at the end of Field of Dreams, but I cried nonetheless. Grab your video card and the person you love and watch this movie. If the both of you are truly in love, you will be glad that you watched this movie. The simple message in this movie is don't give up on love no matter how hopeless the situation.
