brilliant actors, brilliant editing
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
View MoreYes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.
View MoreWorth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.
It was about 30 minutes too long, camera angles were odd-felt like I was watching the movie from the floor, and the actors' talents are wasted portraying such unlikeable characters. Gillian Anderson and Glenn Close were the bright spots; Christina Hendricks' should have had more screen time. Save yourself, watch the trailer, and then pick a different Christie movie.
View MoreI'm surprised that Julian Fellows has a credit for this screenplay as the script was littered with language that did not come into use in the UK until decades later. It's bad enough that our language is being eradicated by Americanisms in the present day but this revisionistic assault is adding insult to injury.
View MoreAs a long time reader of Agatha Christie mysteries I am always interested in how they are transmitted to the big screen. Crooked House is beautifully filmed with the usual array of slightly disfunctional characters captured in a British country house typical of Christie's books. One character dies, who did it? This is for Christie fans who will forgive the repetitive storyline and slightly annoying upper class antics as the ending is worth the wait.
View MoreSPOILER: Moles! The cyanide is used to kill moles.I watched this at home on DVD from our public library. Typical of this type of story the first half is relatively boring as we find out there was a murder and we watch the investigator become familiar with all the residents of this sprawling estate, most of them hangers on to the deceased patriarch. Every one of them, boorish rich people, are disrespectful. No characters to pull for.Still in spite of all that the last 30 minutes or so are pretty interesting as the clues come together and it becomes clear who the murderer is and with this type of story it is among those you would least expect.Good acting by all, a worthwhile watch for fans of this type of mystery.
