That was an excellent one.
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
View MoreIt's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.
View MoreNot sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
View MoreI've been reading a lot of the other reviews of the this movie and on this site, and almost of the all of bad reviews point about the film's minor historical inaccuracies. I have been a huge Monkees fan for a long time and I can personally assure you that this movie is 100% percent historically accurate. Everything down to the last plot detail is true, except for the end. in this movie, After the show got cancelled and the movie Head flops, the Monkees are still together. This isn't true because after all of those things happened, the Monkees broke up. but other than that,it's entirely historically accurate. What makes this film even better is the fact that not only do are four Lead actors dead ringers to the real Monkees, but they also act like the real Monkees. If you read the plot of this movie and you look up the story of the Monkees, you'll find there both the same. I'd highly recommend this movie to any casual fan of the Monkees who doesn't know anything about there story. It's definitely worth the watch.
View MoreMan, WTH! Seriously WTH!I assume this film was made for FANS! of The Monkees. Anyway Spoilers ahead, I guess, This is supposed to be a biopic. What is the matter with the people that made this movie. There are so many continuity goofs in this thing to put The A Team to shame. First of all Why is Micky's hair curly right off the bat. And by the way they wore those stupid yellow shirt suits in one episode, The Pilot, that's it. we never get to see the signature red or blue eight button shirts which i loved as a child. That really ticked me off. I suppose all the other goofs were forgivable but those 2 mess ups alone rendered the whole thing redundant. So true fans beware. no care was taken to make this film anywhere near accurate. It was slapped together for drama sake.
View MoreThis is definitely a movie for either the first-timer who knows nothing about the Monkees, or the person who liked them when young and wants a quick trip down memory lane. For the die-hard fan (like myself) it will probably be a waste of time. I did not necessarily consider it such; it was entertaining and contained quite a bit of accurate information. The actors were spot-on and the portrayals of the real group were eerily accurate--right down to mannerisms! Many people reviewing this movie were grumbling about this and that...whilst watching please remember this is a MOVIE, not a bio-pic. This was (I believe) the main reason for throwing in all the 're-enactments' of the TV shows, movie, videos and concerts. Not a must-see for die-hards, but entertaining and worth watching!
View More*shudders* Yes anything that starts "Well I thought..." Should be shot. But hey..we can all deal with this right?I've read a few of the comments and they are very mixed.I, personally, enjoyed this movie. It may not have been a *perfect* representation of the Monkees lives but that may be almost impossible. The Monkees themselves still continue to exist and make history as they go. The movie was made to be different, something fun that represented a band that made an impact on the world while still being credible in the shadow of the Beatles. The beginning scene was to set the stage of the movie, to add some sort of 90's "influence" in the movie. Perhaps if not overly involved the worlds pop culture at this point it may have been slightly confusing *shrugs*I'm not sure. But I do have to say...I believe they were all amazing in their parts...they were type casted to an extent and they fit their roles well. Aaron played an amazing Micky, George a very good Davey (and even tho he's a lot taller then Davey was well hey...I'm really not going to fault him that), L B Fisher I believe was a great Peter... Awesome on that and I think I was predisposed to dislike Jeff who played my least favourite Monkee, Mike...which means he, too, did his part quite well.I enjoyed the movie...that's all I'm saying..so will ye nil ye...give it a chance :p
