The movie is wildly uneven but lively and timely - in its own surreal way

So, its Taken with Kevin Bacon. Except this was first, why didn't this become a hit? No cool catchphrase? Maybe. But this film is not as bad as people say. Kevin Bacon gives another respected performance, and yet the effort was not recognized as it should have been. Certainly this film has its problems, but overall, it is enjoyable. Again, Kevin Bacon is the reason. Director James Wan displays his talent in a different manner than in his typical horror realm, as this action thriller does surprise, and delight. Of course the always brilliant John Goodman is always a great site to see. However, the problem I do see that may keep it from being a great film, is the messy script. The tone is off, as it doesn't know what it wants to be. And sets as your typical shooter. But it does pack some surprises, and I think the 20% on RT is unjustified. Take what you will from it, and maybe it will surprise you. Don't always listen to RT.

This is not your average Disney movie for sure. Sadly someone wrote a novel about an executive Dudley do right and his family who happens to cross wrong paths of a gang initiation and this movie is the aftermath...It's not an easy watch, and honestly it's not the most believable, although in times it seems to be, weird right? Make no mistake this is not a family watch, unless you have weird family. Kevin did a great job given the circumstances. I mean you can't expect a natural born killer out of a random experience right? And I think this movie somewhat played it off, although I think in the real world it would have been circumvented prematurely, at least by the law.The realism, well who the heck knows right. In some scenes I thought there wasn't enough emotion (me being a family man & all), and some scenes I thought it was just, after all it's only a movie right? I would hate to think about anyone having to go through anything similar in real life, and for those who have, well I'm sure they can put deeper thoughts than I have in this review. I can say one thing for sure, and this from personal experience which gratefully didn't come to this degree, but if anyone ever did hurt any of my family, sadly I would do exactly like Kevin did in this and go all out vengeance, and to my demise if it came to that.So to wrap up, a decent action flick, but with much more involved, so not a senseless flick by any means. There are aspects of realism and yet aspects of movie-like, so don't kid yourself or loose sleep over what all happens. Afterall it's Hollywood right?

I decided to watch this film because I am a huge James wan fan "saw, dead silence, Annabelle, and the conjuring the film was okay. I hate watch film that deal with mafias and gangs cause I hate them so much and it hard for me to view content like that. At least the second half of the film was good because he was getting his revenge against the evil monsters that killed his family so all in all I rate this a 6/10 cause gangs film are not my cup of tea.

hmm I see the comment section is back? well done IMDb! I thought this movie was non-stop action violence and worth the time to watch! Love Kevin Bacon as I enjoy most of his movies! I especially like him when he is a bad guy like River Wild or something or Invisible man, but he is a versatile actor, message should be be careful as it is sometimes better to turn the other cheek rather than seek revenge!
