The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

Following a meteor crash into Los Angeles, the release of toxic fumes turns the citizens into ravenous blood-crazed zombies and forces several unaffected friends to try to make it to safety against the increasing swarm of creatures. This was quite a disappointing zombie effort that didn't have a lot of worthwhile elements to it. One of the few areas this gets right is the opening intro to the aftermath throughout here which manages to come off incredibly well as there's some great times to the group awakening the night after and seeing the chaos unleashed in the aftermath, as the devastated buildings, smoke and fires, emergency contacts and even the concerned citizens left alongside showcase a pretty real-life scenario that almost plays it off too much like a disaster movie rather than a horror effort. Still, the effectiveness of these scenes delves right into the panic of the situation and how to get out safely, leading in turn into the race to get out of the city with the swarming zombie hordes getting put into the story with some nice scenes here with the realization that takes place in the apartment, the race to overcome the hordes of dwellers in the parking garage while getting off the film's best suspense scene as the one roommate must get around his zombiefied house-mate without alerting the rest of the zombies on the floor to his presence while retrieving the keys to a working car and finally the mad dash to escape at the end where the film really makes the action work nicely in the mini-confrontations that occur resulting in some nice gore as well. However, there's still a lot wrong with this one starting with the utterly inane characters on here who are some of the biggest morons in the genre. Despite ample opportunities shown that they're dealing with zombies they still manage to think that there's no way possible for any of their friends to become one which leads them into rooms and opening up doors for the zombie masses to appear when it was more appropriate for stealth and ignorance to keep them out of harm's way which puts them into danger for nearly every one of the encounters throughout here. Likewise, the fact that they're introduced at a party with all manner of aggravating, annoying behavior and uninteresting story lines means that for the most part we're not following anybody all that interesting and most of their deaths are more euphoric than depressing based on the circumstances surrounding them. That also leads into the film's biggest problem which is the rather halfhearted attempt at zombie films in here by focusing more on the disaster scenario of the meteor strike in the first half, their refusal to believe the danger in the second half and basically make the film's few zombie encounters throughout here the product of their own stupidity with this only having a handful of attacks anyway, forcing them into the backlog of their own film. It's the single biggest mark here that drags this one down.Rated R: Graphic Language and Graphic Violence.

This is one of the more refreshing sci-fi films in a long time, and one of the best zombie films since the original duo of "Night of the Living Dead" and the 1985 classic "Day of the Dead".It's a throwback to the old films which looked like original plots and characters. There is the look of the Lost Patrol and similar movies, most notably JOURNEY TO SHILOH, which had to make an impact on the writing of this. And that's what makes this a good film. It looks like one of the few sci-fi films that wasn't stolen from a more inspired writer and muddled into a formula film. There's also a throwback to the era of McQueen and his blob, to the old teenager flicks in which the young men and women had a sense of character and camaraderie. We can identify with the characters, save the one real creepy one who is an obvious villain. And we can see their motivation. The five young men, and the woman who is separated from them, are quite credible. They have some darkness in them, a realistic amount, the sort of the platoon in ALIENS if one makes an analogy. That's why this is an interesting story. I was pleasantly surprised.Needless to say, the beavis and butthead crowd won't like it, because it does have credible characters in an incredible situation. However, others will enjoy this. The weakness is the "villain", who looks out of place in a group of three dimensional characters. The hero is a bit wooden, but he's credible, because he does have a very believable motivation for his actions, and because he sees himself as a steward over the others. He says little, and does a lot of thinking, which does make sense in this incredible situation of zombies infesting their home city. The best character is his friend, Turner, who truly looks inspired by the character of Miller from JOURNEY TO SHILOH. In fact, the actor could be a look alike for Michael Sarrazin. For that matter, the lead actor has much the same mannerisms as James Caan in that film. Their three friends are likable as are the five friends from Shiloh.Perhaps this was unintentional, being simply inspired from the same sort of feeling. Whatever, it does work. For good or bad, it's "inspired" and looks "original", not like the usual movies that look like they were stolen from more creative minds. These people did what they did on their own, if I'm not mistaken.Turner makes the film work, because he is the one the viewer will probably identify with the most. He has the best survival instincts as well as a great sense of teamwork, not only trying to save himself, but everyone else he can.In a film where friends are whittle down, it's not really a spoiler to say most of them are whittled down. Aside from the throw away character of the villain, all are handled quite well. This looks like a B film that will eventually be a mainstay. For now, expect the usual jealousy of inferior minds. It could even become a better film than I give credit for. It's a keeper.

Well let me set it off. The zombie make up was not realistic, in fact it looked like one zombie had a bunch of wet paper towels on his face. Even if it's an independent film have the decency to throw money into it because this film was crap. I was not scared and there was not really any excitement. Half way threw the film we turned it off. I do not like zombie films to begin with and Disaster la definitely did not win me over. This is indeed a boring film. I had to slam a lot of wicked red drinks in order to place the disk in the tray but I did it. I wanted them all to die, the friend died in front of them for some reason but the other characters didn't seem to care. I found out that before renting the film that 1 guy does everything in the film. It was all for a waste sir.

The only spoiler in my review was the spoiled evening watching this garbage.Everything about this movie was bad. The writing, directing, cinematography...just bad. The characters are all void of any common sense. Since we live in a "zombie culture", I think everyone out there has a mental plan of what they would do if the "zombies" ever came. Most of these plans have some sort of purpose and common sense. This is a story about a group of people totally not like that. You watch it and think "Are they stupid? This is stupid." and then you realize it's a movie and this was all written this way...on purpose. I have to say, I read all other reviews and I can't help but wonder how many hits of acid did "tvsgael" take before watching this movie. Bro, 7 stars, good CGI...really?
