It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
View MoreGood movie but grossly overrated
Disappointment for a huge fan!
It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review
View MoreUnfortunately there are still many people around the world in denial that these atrocities ever took place. Today's youth don't even know much about WWII (if at all) and when asked who Hitler was, quite a number think that he is a current president of some country, but most just don't know. This movie is probably the best and most accurate portrayal of the last days in the bunker based on the book written by Hitler's secretary. Most other war films are fictional and dramatized and eye account documentaries on this subject become scarcer as time goes by.Important lessons are learnt from history, but without this acquired knowledge wars reoccur and many are raging around the world as we speak.
View MoreIf you don't like WW2 history or history in general, you won't enjoy this piece. But if you are a history enthusiast, this movie is a must-watch. It is purely amazing how acting is so realistic and you feel the tension in the bunker. The portrayal of Hitler is truly amazing, how people around him follow his orders, and how much of a madman he is, this movie shows it all.
View MoreThis film was sold as a kind of definitive account of what happened in Hitler's bunker during the final days of WWII, free from the prejudice, based on fact, made from a historical distance that allows for even the supposed monster that Hitler was to be humanised. What a load of crap. This film reinforces every single stereotype in the book, and Hitler comes across as a raving, heartless lunatic. So do all his companions, with the exception of a few figures that were never charged with any crimes anyhow, and could be allowed to be even sympathetic. People laugh at this film thanks to the numerous Hitler rants parodies that now exist in what must be tens of thousands, but I laughed at it even before these parodies became prominent. Does anyone take the persona of Adolf Hitler, as it is portrayed in the film, seriously? How is it different from the previous depictions? You see, as long as your premise is that he was the most evil man ever, and that his regime was the most inhuman ever, you will never come close to being honest or realistic in the depiction of these characters. Interestingly enough, the emotional pitch point of the film is actually the murder of Goebbels' children. The way it is presented is to strengthen the prejudice: these people were heartless killers who would even kill their children for the sake of their insane ideas. But that is not true. What do you think the fate of these children would have been had the Soviets captured them? First of all, they would have killed the parents. Then they would have either killed the children, or raised them as the most despised kids, as virtual slaves in a country that defines itself as the enemy of the ideology their parents espoused. What kind of life would that have been? As I said earlier, you cannot make an honest film if you are not prepared to look at the facts honestly. As long as you insist on maintaining stereotypes and ideological dogmas, as well as obvious propaganda, you will never make a film that will be of any value. Hopefully we will get better films as time goes by.
View MoreNot just another "See Hitler Get It" movie, with Alec Guiness or someone with a little mustache going mad. I stumbled into this and couldn't leave, gripped by the fine acting and credibility of events. It's a sad movie. Hitler and his Myrmidons may have reaped what they sowed but it's still depressing to see an entire social structure fall apart. And then there is poor dumb Eva Braun, and the half dozen beautiful children of Mister and Mrs. Goebbels, who didnt know the meaning of the word "war", poisoned and murderered by their own mother. And that's only to mention the unwitting passing of Hitler's dog Blondi. It's a long story but it had to be. The climax is not Hitler's suicide in the bunker but the harrowing escape of his secretary, Trudl Junge, through the Russian blockade to safety.
