I like how this movie takes the natural fears inherent in space travel and takes it to an extreme that I found both terrifying and riveting. I was reminded somewhat of Dark Star, although this is tonally different. Well matched with a Guinness and bowl of microwave popcorn. I suggest you watch it on amazon prime instant, if you have it.

I really enjoy this film and I am not a big sci-fiction guru. There's a light touch with details and applied with a subtle touch. The acting was solid. The cinematography was unique and appealing. Outstanding sound. Nice pace that builds. It reminds me a lot of Shane Carruth's Primer (2004). Both are small budget, yet pack a big punch. Yes, there is a chance that you might not like this movie. That's because it is not a movie made for the majority of paying cinema goers, but it is a movie made for the sake of movie making. It is an original, so if you want something that you are used to see and expect beginning and ending in a specific way don't go watching this one. I will finish by saying you must tip your hat to any film maker who takes on such a complex storyline on a small budget. Low budget sci-fiction's usually don't work but somehow the Director Glenn Payne pulls it off. It's a thumbs up for me.

Earthrise is a high concept science fiction indie thriller. I absolutely love the idea of characters on a voyage to earth, to their "home", for the first time. The idea of humans having to leave the earth is all to real, so a look into this possible future is a fun idea for the overlapping concept of Earthrise. What happens to the characters on their journey home is another thing altogether (thats the focus of the movie, not earth itself). The thing that creeps me out personally of space horror is the idea of complete isolation- stuck on a spaceship, there is truly nowhere to go. The movie has a very slow build to the characters breakdown and the twisted ending. The camera work/effects are fitting for the flick and the cast shines. Overall, I recommend for anyone looking for a slow burn sci-fi thriller.

Fantastic movie, would watch again. It reminds me of Neal Stephenson's Seveneves novel in that it's a well-thought out exploration of humanity in a hypothetical future in which the basic rules of life on earth as we know it have changed. Earthrise doesn't rely on special effects to carry the day, and that's a good thing. While this is a sci-fi film, underneath all that you'll find a compelling story about characters with real depth, all combining to create a though-provoking piece that's as entertaining as it is intellectually stimulating. The filmmakers did a terrific job of creating a living, breathing world and respecting the rules that they set up for the characters.
