Very well executed
Nice effects though.
It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.
View MoreThe movie really just wants to entertain people.
This is a short film that I wasn't planning on reviewing. However, after seeing only one other review (and one so very, very positive), I thought I'd throw in my two cents worth, so to speak. While I did not dislike the film, I wasn't nearly as impressed--especially since I have seen so many other short films lately. Compared to others, this one is pretty good but certainly not outstanding--at least as far as the plot goes. It just seemed incomplete and unsatisfying to deserve such praise--unless you like the direction the plot goes. I am not into the supernatural in general, so this might account for my feelings about it. Anne Rice fans and fans of TWILIGHT will no doubt love it.However, one thing I really did like was the look of the film--the costumes, the funkadelic early 1970s look that is very eye-catching. The director and set designers did a great job and made the movie (complete with fake age marks on the film) look like a blast from the past.Overall, a decent film and I am left wanting to see more from the team that made it.
View MoreI was lucky enough to preview this gem at the 2006 FANTASTICFEST where the Hive's first effort, THE LISTENING DEAD, cruised to a BEST SHORT FILM award and I can assure you FAR OUT is a top contender for the 2007 award as well. Phil Mucci, Sean Joyner et al blaze a new path with a 5 minute talkie that evokes a 70s-VALLEY OF THE DOLLS-type feeling but with a modern sensibility and style all it's own. Mucci's influences (Bava, Franco, Argento, Fulci, etc) are represented but rather than ape their styles the Hive crafted a cinematically gorgeous, incredibly detailed horror-comedy that is at once an homage as well as a throwback that would have felt right at home in the era...and it's only 5 minutes long! What these guys would do with a feature! I urge you to take a look at this wonderfully crafted, funny-as-hell,watch it ten times and still see something new modern classic. Kudos to Phill Mucci and the Hive!
