There is just so much movie here. For some it may be too much. But in the same secretly sarcastic way most telemarketers say the phrase, the title of this one is particularly apt.
View MoreGreat story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
View MoreActress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
View MoreIt's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
View MoreOne review said "all style and no substance". I used the same words with my friend only 3 minutes before. Not a coincidence. This is the biggest rip-off(or pointless homage at least) of Blue Velvet(and Twin Peaks) ever created. Which really enrages me cause David Lynch is my favorite director. The acting in this is atrocious. Some of you will be allured by the indie style it's shot or the quirky/dark subject matter and I suppose you'd like David Lynch too. Or perhaps you just dig the shock value of this type of movie. I hope you see one of his films and see how it takes more than just bizarre imagery to make something brilliant. What he does is brilliant and distinctly him. Yea i know maybe i didn't do my research, it could be an homage which is a sweet gesture. Regardless, this movie is clowshoes drizzled in failsauce.
View MoreChrist where do I start with this mess of a movie. Don't get me wrong, Firecracker had its moments but they were few and far between. First of all the person who edited this should go right back to school FOR A LONG TIME and actually learn how to edit. There was so much of this film that could have been cut out, its just simply too long which makes it dreadfully boring! I've seen this movie several times in theaters and on DVD so you can say I really tried to give it a chance only because of Patton pretty much like everyone else. Im sure no one would have really bothered if he wasn't in it.95% of the acting was terrible to say the least, heres why- 1. Jak Kendall was the WORST of all with his unconvincing, mildly retarded sissy ass voice which made me want to give him a laxative to get rid of that confused and constipated look on his face the whole freaking time.2. Karen Black- gotta love her. She was one of the only people in this film with any actual acting skills. I enjoyed watching her as the sexy but mutilated Sandra who is the love interest/prisoner of the obsessive and abusive Frank, ringleader of the circus of freaks. She also plays Jimmy and Davids mother.3. Mike Patton- the reason why pretty much everyone risked burning their eyes to watch this P.O.S. His acting debut was nothing really special and a lot of it was really too theatrical and over acted. I did like him as David though who is also abusive like his other character Frank, almost too similar. Too bad he doesn't get to stick around for very long. We wont even bother speculating as to whether David could be Jimmys father as well. Ew.4. Susan Traylor was pretty good and one of the very few actors who helped salvage this movie and make it somewhat bearable as Ed the cop who is on a mission to find David after he mysteriously goes missing and later discovers his dead body in a tool shed outside of his family's home.5. The Enigma SUCKED. Enough said about that.6. Paul Sizemore was OK as Harry the sort of ditzy sidekick of Ed the cop. Not really much to say about him there was nothing remotely memorable about his character.7. Brook Balderson- Why?! She wreaked to say the least. Her character as Pearl the oracle was so pointless and annoying and my least favorite aside from Jimmy (Jak Kendalls character)She looked like an over-cooked chicken in a robe and had as much acting skills as one.And lastly I cant remember who played the nosy neighbor but she was funny. All in all this movie gets a 3 out of 10 stars for its lackluster performances and drawn out scenes. This movie was ultimately a bust and very over glorified by these phony critics who dared liken this film to anything David Lynch has done or the Wizard of Oz or anything remotely good calling it an American cult classic (laughable). Obviously those comments are F for fake!!! The director Steve Balderson wishes he had a fraction of the talent in one of David Lynchs turds.
View MoreI am not a stupid person. I consider myself well read and reasonably open to all types of artistic expression. While earning a master's degree, I was told by my professors. that I have an excellent ability to think analytically and creatively. But, that being said . . . I have to tell you that I laughed at the "rave" reviews given to this movie. In my opinion what occurred here, is an effort by the film-maker to be the new "creative genius" on the film-making front. Consequently, he went way, way over the top trying to stun the viewers with his "gift" for innovative intuitiveness into psychological film-making, and ended up with a nasty mess like Firecracker. I watched it all the way through because I couldn't tear myself away . . . kind of like a gawker at the scene of a grisly accident. You know what I mean, appalled and disgusted, but you just can't look away. As for the reviewers-well I guess it was sort of like the people in "The Emperor's New Clothes." Nobody had the nerve to speak out and say, "hey, this movie stinks!"
View MoreThis film had an enormous amount of potential as a drama/murder mystery, but the two ends do not meet. Firecraker would easily leave any viewer asking what the point of this film was, and I don't blame them. It asks far too much of the viewer for interpretation, and quite frankly it doesn't seem intentional.I really enjoyed some parts of Firecracker. There were moments that were truly gripping and sent chills down my spine. But most of that was counteracted by incredibly poor acting. Don't get me wrong - Jak Kendall was brilliant, and Mike Patton was as vibrant as his music (perhaps too much). Yet others like Karen Black and Amy Kelly are almost laughable at points. I can only blame it on amateurish direction, and it's a shame, because these people can do better.Despite that, there's a lot to appreciate here. The editing, cinematography and colors of the film are brilliant and beautiful. Yet the story, while gripping at its core, is presented in such a hollow form that the whole package really falls flat.I would regretfully not recommend this film to anyone. It is at more time painful to watch than captivating. And that is truly unfortunate. This story should definitely be re-visited with better direction. The art of this film and good storytelling could co-exist to create something truly brilliant - but this is not it.And upon further review, I think it is worth noting that almost all 10/10 reviews on this film are from accounts that were made solely to put a positive face on this movie and were probably done by those involved with the movie. If you don't believe me, click on their accounts and you will see that this is the only film they've reviewed.
