A Major Disappointment
Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.

View MoreFrank Sinatra: Concert for the Americas (1982) *** 1/2 (out of 4)Frank Sinatra took part in the August 20th, 1982 music festival in the Dominican Republic that hosted five thousands people in an open- seat venue. Sinatra, performing with the Buddy Rich Orchestra, does a very good job as it's clear he's in good form and appears to be having a very good time as he goes through some of his classic songs as well as some nice covers. At this point in his career he certainly didn't have the same voice that people fell in love with decades earlier but don't let that fool you. The voice on display here is still quite fantastic and still manages to get all the proper emotions from the songs being sung. We get classics like I've Got the World on a String, I Get a Kick Out of You, The Lady is a Tramp, My Kind of Town and Theme from New York New York. Also on hand is a nice sequence where Sinatra does Send in the Clowns and Quiet Night of Quiet Stars with Tony Mottola on guitar. Another great performance comes from a cover of The Beatles Something.Again, Sinatra appears to be having fun singing the songs and he certainly has a wonderful presence on the stage as he walks around with that mic and there's no doubt that he holds your attention throughout.
View MoreFrankie paid a memorable visit to the Caribbean, and this live concert is the result. He certainly did have the world on it string. We were all on a rainbow as we listened to that phenomenal voice.Always praising his arrangers, especially Nelson Riddle, Frank Sinatra belted out some usual favorites. I was taken back to "Pal Joey" when he sang The Lady is A Tramp. At once, Rita Hayworth came back to me alive and full of life.Frank was so correct when he stated that one becomes more patriotic when you're out of the country. As a result, his rendition of That's America for Me was so good.Sinatra brought the house down in a classic classy show.

This is one color VHS that every lover and admirer of good taste and Ol' Blue Eyes must have. This video is a Warner Reprise Video #3-38210 a 1990 Bristol Productions Limited Partnership. Made in USA. As good as Sinatra gets or ever was! His composure and dignity is breathtaking. His rendition of "I Won't Dance" would have met with Fred Astaire's approval. Twenty tunes in all. The world's greatest jazz drummer that ever lived leads his superb band through-out and plays an extended performance of about ten minutes. Every one of todays performers should study this VHS to see how it should be done. Having seen Sinatra in person many times this Dominican Republic appearance is simply a knock-out.
