After Dick Harper loses his job at Globodyne in an Enron-esque collapse, he and his wife, Jane, turn to crime in order to handle the massive debt they now face. Two intelligent people, Dick and Jane actually get pretty good at robbing people and even enjoy it -- but they have second thoughts when they're reminded that crime can hurt innocent people. When the couple hears that Globodyne boss Jack McCallister actually swindled the company, they plot revenge.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

Fun with Dick and Jane (2005): Dir: Dean Parisot / Cast: Jim Carrey, Tea Leoni, Alec Baldwin, Richard Jenkins, Angie Harmon: Routine remake about communication and marital union. When Jim Carrey and Tea Leoni lose their jobs and are threatened with bankruptcy they resort to crime in order to live. Setup works due to casual development of the plot that isn't rushed but the conclusion leaves questions as to whether a lesson is learned or is crime a payoff. Director Dean Parisot counters cheap sets in favor of developing the setup, which pays off further due to Carrey and Leoni's flawed methods of executing crime. They are an effective pairing coming from different cinematic backgrounds. They are at their best in crime scenes that backfire leaving them empty handed. Parisot previously made the mystifying comedy tragedy Home Fries as well as the science fiction comedy spoof misfire Galaxy Quest. Richard Jenkins carries a few laughs as an ex-co-worker but Alec Baldwin is a complete waste as the cheating boss in what amounts to being a rather standard role. Angie Harmon even got talked into this. It is hardly an impressive comedy in terms of its production values. Despite the fact that this is a remake the theme stresses the difficulty in living yet Dick and Jane's true fun is in their ability to work through these difficulties as a union. Score: 5 ½ / 10

Fun with Dick and Jane is a good Jim Carrey movie, but it surprisingly lacks the amount of humor present in other "recent" Jim Carrey movies such as Bruce Almighty and Yes Man. On this second viewing of the film I found myself engaged in the story to the point that I was not necessarily upset that this movie wasn't was funny as I expected. This movie has an unusually long first act for a comedy. Jim Carrey plays Dick Harper, who works at a company run by Jack McCallister (Alec Baldwin with an atrocious southern accent) and Dick gets promoted right before the company goes bankrupt due to McCallister's embezzlement, which no officials realize even though it is so obvious. The titular couple, Dick and Jane, has to deal with financial hardships since Jane quits her job after Dick's promotion, leaving no breadwinners in the house once the company Dick works for goes bankrupt. It may only take about half an hour, but it seems like a good forty or forty-five minutes for Dick and Jane to get to the point of the movie: the two of them robbing banks. It is enjoyable to watch the couple go from terrible to expert level at the task of robbing money. The segment that deals with the first night Dick tries to rob people shows how pathetic Dick comes across to start, first stealing only a slurpee, then finding himself in weird situations while robbing other stores which includes helping an elderly woman to walk back to her car, and suddenly the excitement hits when the two of them rob a neon-lit shop once Dick explains they will get evicted the next day if they don't obtain the money. It is humorous to see the two act like regular people in the process of robbing, one example being when they order specific drinks at a coffee shop while robbing the place. The second half of the movie seems to go by really quickly, and we find the third act of the film to be more about getting back at McCallister than obtaining a large sum of money, which is a nice turn. When I first saw this film I assumed the couple would just run off with the $400 million McCallister had in his accounts, but Dick and Jane donating the money to the people who worked with Dick seemed a lot more fitting for the light comedy that it was.Though the film could have used more humor and its tone could have been more consistent, Fun With Dick and Jane is a delight to watch since it is a great underdog story that is very easy to watch.

Well, it's interesting to see Jim Carrey doing works different from his usual ones; okay, maybe this isn't THAT different from them, but at least he doesn't sound like a goofy retard anymore. In this short flick, Carrey's character is a desperated man robbing and cheating everyone around because his company broke and he's totally out of money. For a comedy movie, I believe there are too few funny moments, but at least they don't try to hard and fail like many of Carrey's comedies do. The plot itself isn't too elaborated or developed; the story is told in an entertaining way so the spectator doesn't have time to get sick, tired or lost in the story. Agree with me or not, but I liked this film better than "The Truman Show"-- and I must say I'm ready to be offended and receive thousand of negatives reactions to this opinion of mine.

A wildly underrated remake of the Jane Fonda/George Segal classic --- proving that it's never a bad time to say f### y## to corporate America. Jim Carrey & Tea Leoni find themselves way over their heads after Carrey is run out of his job by greedy boss Alec Baldwin. They plot revenge after trying (in the most bizarre ways imaginable)to make ends meet. Attempting everything from bank robbery to migrant day labor, Carrey is brilliant and Leoni is a perfect match for his hyperactivity. Their Sonny & Cher bit is lunacy and Carrey's run in with some ruthless INS officers has to be seen to be believed. Baldwin, affecting a southern drawl, is suitably nasty and the supporting cast includes Michael Higgins, Angie Harmon, and Richard Jenkins, as the couple's boozy and very unlikely savior.
