During the U.S.-led occupation of Baghdad in 2003, Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller and his team of Army inspectors are dispatched to find weapons of mass destruction believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert. Rocketing from one booby-trapped and treacherous site to the next, the men search for deadly chemical agents but stumble instead upon an elaborate cover-up that threatens to invert the purpose of their mission.

Truly Dreadful Film

It isn't all that great, actually. Really cheesy and very predicable of how certain scenes are gonna turn play out. However, I guess that's the charm of it all, because I would consider this one of my guilty pleasures.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

Green Zone has been classified as a rare miss for both Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass. We remember when Green Zone was first released showing the trailers, it was relatively hyped up and described as a "Bourne film in war". The film wasn't received as well as the first three Bourne films and has flopped at the box office. Within the story, It's 2003, where we see Matt Damon plays (Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller), head of a WMD-finding unit in Baghdad which keeps coming up empty at all the alleged sites. Suspecting bad leads, Miller goes maverick in his attempts to trace their original source, raising eyebrows and fighting the received orthodoxy. With all we know about the wool-pulling to make the case for war, it's a kick to follow a main character on the ground who smells a rat this early, wary of the stalling tactics the Pentagon are offering instead of conclusive proof.Overall Green Zone doesn't grad the attention as one would have hoped for. It has its moments but in comparison to the Bourne films, Green Zone doesn't stack up and comes up short. Also compared to the Hurt Locker, in which we can see some similarities but the Hurt Locker feels as much of a more superior film.

First things first. This is a thriller/action movie, regardless of the negative reviews from predominantly right-wing US reviewers. What I find particularly hilarious is that the same people will eat up the garbage of 13 hours and American Sniper as 'factual' because it suits their own political agenda, but decry anything that even remotely goes against that with the usual whining of 'Anti- American'. Here's a thought. Don't invade a sovereign nation illegally under false motives and people won't despise your nation for doing so.The movie itself is a well acted, scripted affair. I didn't actually notice the 'hand camera shakiness' until I started reading negative reviews on here. Apparently, I, like many other adults, are capable of following the movements of other human beings on the screen without them being tied to a rail. Who'da thunk it?Gritty, confusing and twisted sums up the storyline and Damon delivers once again. Greg Kinnear delivers his usual double-dealing politician role with gusto and Brendan Gleeson nails the image of the cynical, world-weary spook.Special mention must be made of Khalid Abdalla or 'Freddy'. He brings a poignant humanity to the movie with his ex-military Iraqi character, interested only in the welfare of his nation as a whole.Naturally, many will decry this as 'left wing propaganda', but we've been over that already. Make your own mind up. Do a bit of research about the joke that was the US intelligence effort prior to 2003. Watch the movie. Realise the debacle that Bush's war was and then tell me who's at fault.

This movie cops out and cuts corners in nearly every way possible. Hey you want to show a partially destroyed building, yeah lots not make a set lets just use obvious CGI. Hey instead of firing blanks and using squibs to show bullet impact, lets use CGI. Yeah that's right, sh!tty CG for the muzzle flash, sh!tty CG for the smoke the gun produces, and sh!tty CG for any and all bullet impacts. I don't understand why you would make a movie like this and just halfass it. It's not relying on a strong or compelling story. The characters are bland and we know the outcome before the movie even starts: there are no WMDs. It doesn't try to be realistic about anything either. The soldiers never show trigger discipline, always fire on full auto, and nobody ever seems to miss a shot no matter how inaccurate their full auto fire should be. So what is Green Zone even going for? The action is still enjoyable to watch in a dumb mind numbing way (even if a clichéd action movie soundtracks plays throughout every intense scene instead of letting the ambient noises create the atmosphere itself), and any conspiracy movie is intriguing in some sense as long as it isn't total garbage. So although I cannot recommend this movie I can't say it's totally unwatchable. Unless you hate hand-held, then yes the majority of this movie is totally unwatchable shaky cam with quick cut editing. No, this movie suffers from being average in every single category.

Matt Damon plays a fantastic role and really helps engage the audience to what his true personal mission is within the film. The film helps the audience understand what modern warfare is like without a lot of trigger happy American junkies shooting constantly through the film. It helps enlighten the public about the corruption and the conspiracy behind the Iraq war as well as showing the true superpower of the USA. There are no real faults with the film and it is one of my personal favourite films about modern conflict. The film is definitely a must watch to anyone who takes any interest in current affairs and modern war however if you like an all out fighting film with a lot of nail biting battles then this film probably isn't going to be a favourite. It does have its fair share of fighting but the more gripping context is the ideal behind why Miller wants to investigate into WMD's. Overall it is a fantastic film and i would recommend it to anyone.
