Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
View MoreExcellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
View MoreTrue to its essence, the characters remain on the same line and manage to entertain the viewer, each highlighting their own distinctive qualities or touches.
View MoreWorth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.
Let's start by the title, the only way the gods subject is addressed in this movie is by the lack of faith of one character opposed to the faith of his allies and foes. In no way do the gods intervene. The "hammer" is just a reference to a person. Credits. Whenever a movie stops in the beginning just so we can all be informed of who is who... with their names appearing beside the characters, that movie better be something really special or else I get that funny feeling and just going to be wasting my time. The violence is fine, people tend to have brutal gory deaths when they are attacked with Viking swords and axes. Even the boromir-like-death gets a free pass. By the end of the movie there is some gratuitous boobs because whynot, not that I'm complaining but they bounce out of nowhere...get it...bounce...The acting is half good and I'm still wondering why would an actor reprise the same role in two unrelated pieces (tv show Vikings and Hammer of the Gods). On to the plot. This is what really destroys the movie. It goes no where, really. People die left and right for hardly any reason. The fellowship (let's call it fellowship) get's obliterated as soon as a seasoned Viking warrior acts like a child. Then half the movie has gone by and our group of merry m...erh... Vikings find this guy who is known to be practically invincible but has a trait that has to be included because you know, equality in representation and whatnot. Anyway all is good but turns out the only true thing about him are the rumors about is tendencies. Some people are fighting our heroes because whynot apparently. Then the Hammer of the gods gets his screen time. He is weird. And the group is cut in half because I guess the budget was running low or something. Someone who is implied to have been dead or missing for years is around but has a taboo fetish and she is very annoying. Was she like a priestess? And oracle? A consort queen? Who cares, she isn't around for 30 seconds screen time.Everyone has a nice meal and get back to the starting point. But this time they have less experienced men (since they died for nothing), a former slave woman in front of the ranks (because she can read, that is her only strong point). All this in a week maybe 2 weeks time period. They all went no where slow...and it's all on the main character who didn't listen to virtually every single person close to him (father, best friend, his own men) since the first minute of their troubled times. The landscape is gorgeous and very well captured most of the times...that's probably the best thing I can say about this.4/10...within the viking genre alone...maybe 6/10 being generous
View MoreIf you like Hero, House of a Thousand Flying Daggers, National Treasure, or Last Tango in Paris, you will love this film. It has that hint of an epic film tempered with the legitimacy of an Oscar nominated documentary. Yes! It is that REAL! Nicolas Cage's acting was spot-on, Salam Hyack was spectacular. The lightning effects during the rain storm put me right in the movie with the main characters. The sex scenes were done very, very tastefully, but, be warned there are glimpses of female genitalia in many parts of the lovemaking. I like my woman tall and firm and this film is full of those types of women! This movie may not win any awards, but it deserves to be nominated for something. You need Dolby THX DTS in your home system to fully enjoy this film. Be warned!!!!
View MoreIn 870 AD, in Britain, the Vikings under the leadership of King Bagsecg (James Cosmo) are in war against the Saxons. When he is mortally wounded in a battle, he summons his younger son, Prince Steinar (Charlie Bewley), to meet his to other sons Harald (Finlay Robertson) and Vali (Theo Barklem-Biggs) at his death bed. King Bagsecg asks to Stainar to seek out his missing brother Hakan the Ferrocious (Elliot Cowan) to return with the next king of his people. Stainer travels with his friends Hagen (Clive Standen), Grim (Michael Jibson) and Jokul (Guy Flanagan) and his half-brother Vali to search the warrior Ivar (Ivan Kaye) that might know the whereabouts of Hakan. When they meet Ivar, he joins the group with his mate Agnes (Alexandra Dowling) in a brutal journey to hell."Hammer of the Gods" is a weird and violent movie about the quest of a young prince to find his older brother that has been expelled from the kingdom by his father. His unexpected discovery of the truth about his family changes his behavior. Unfortunately the movie is too brutal and the choreography of the gore battle scenes is very poor with successive cuts and very few warrior due to the low-budget. My vote is six.Title (Brazil): "Martelo dos Deuses" ("Hammer of the Gods")
View MoreFrom the beginning of the movie until the very end, the movie was not very connected what so ever. It seemed very forced at how they tried to put everything into the movie. It you like gore and action, the movie will at least hold your attention like it did mine. Other than that, if you don't I would not recommend this movie to you.The movies plot did not seem to have a great story behind it and that is the main reason that I believe this movie flopped. I think it could have been much better with a different story line behind it other than a man trying to find his brother to become the king. The movie overall has some twists and turns, but is very predictable at the end.
