Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.

I didn't know where this film was going when I first started watching but am so happy that I went along for the ride. The main characters darkness originally seemed very far from my own reality and experiences but as the story progressed I realized that our paths may not be that far apart, it's just that each of us chooses to express ourselves differently. Of course Ruth Gordon is excellently cast for this role and together her and Bud Court make a dynamic and engaging pair. Vivian Pickles as the mother is also pitch-perfect. The Cat Stevens score is really a third character in this film as it represents to me a perfect pairing of music/lyrics and story. I spoke with some other viewers who found this film dark and depressing, but to me it was a joyful and life-affirming work of art that I suspect with linger within me for a very long time.

I watched Harold and Maude when it came out in the 70's and I will NEVER forget it for every worthwhile reason! The personalities of those two were loaded and bursting at the seams with a uniqueness so special you would blessed to meet just one person that original in a lifetime and they found each other. Good people to me and hilarious! You must see it! Your life can only be made better for it! Truly!

For the young public, a film with the versions of Elijah Wood and Bette Middler. absurde, hilarious, eccentric. in fact, one of the magnificent love stories. impressive, touching, sensitive, great. because it is a love story with life. a form of self discover, using the solitude, an unconventional friendship and the legacy of an old lady for who to live is more significant than to be. the fresh air of this film remains lovely each time. not surprising - it represents the key /note/originality defining it in profound sense. so, a masterpiece. because, for a part of its public, it represents the right answer to so many questions.

A suicidal teenager, an eighty year old 'pixie dream girl' and an overt flower power era attitude towards the world, its customs, its sensibilities and its politics. Hal Ashby constantly blurs the line between reality and imagination in this existential comedy-drama by using bizarrely hallucinatory sequences and abstract staging of scenes. The oddball nature of some scenes truly verge on slapstick comedy and I think the film deliberately plays these scenes for comedic effect. The film works because of the peculiar chemistry between Bud Cort and Ruth Gordon. Overall it didn't leave a very lasting effect in my mind, but it's certainly a cute little film that can be enjoyed.
