not as good as all the hype

I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

The one thing that really sticks out here is that sequence when they're going through the sand. I can't really tell if it's good or bad that they put this near the end. Everyone would have left the theater early of course. I guess it's probably just more clever for them. Seriously, no dialogue at all? I didn't even realize this was a sequel to "Hercules Unchained". It guess it's just because that was a pretty forgettable movie too. I don't even remember seeing any of these men on the actual Moon. I guess I just wasn't paying attention. It was just a hard to follow film. I notice that when movies are really bad, I just don't bother noticing the plot at all. There seemed to be some pretty bad lighting effects in this. Maybe it was just the MST3K version, but everything seemed way too bright, especially at the beginning. I'm not going to bother getting to know the names of the actors in this series. The costumes are quite bad and the acting isn't good as expected from an old bad movie like this. *

Hercules Against The Moon Men? The title says it all. And it's hardly a successful mixing of genres. The mythic demi-god strongman played here by Alan Steel is summoned by some folks in a small kingdom whose Queen played by Jany Clair is demanding child sacrifices. The kids go up on a mountain that is continually veiled in mist, but they never come back. Kind of like the Pied Piper without the flute. As for these aliens they're rock monsters who have a human queen who needs blood sacrifices to keep her comatose body alive, preferably the youngest blood possible. When the moon and planets are at a certain confluence, they're going to come down out of their mountain hideout and takeover. What's the science here, I'm not sure, I don't think the producers thought seriously on the subject. Hercules must have stopped them permanently, they didn't make an appearance when Armstrong and Aldrin paid the moon a visit. Though they did bring back some rocks.Careful they don't grow up to be monsters.

HERCULES AGAINST THE MOON MEN (MACISTE E LA REGINA DI SAMAR) is a bad film, though it's almost passable entertainment up until the last 20 or so minutes of the film. Then, the film shows exactly why it's now listed in the "hallowed 100"--the 100 lowest ranked films on IMDb.The film begins in the land controlled by the insane Queen of Samara. It seems that they have made a deal with some weird rock-like creatures. They'll make the Queen all-powerful and all she has to do is keep supplying them with human sacrifices. Oddly, her people don't seem to appreciate this arrangement and one of them even sends out a request to Hercules (Maciste in the original non-dubbed film) to put a stop to Samara and her rock group. The film is packed with betrayals, a love potion and assorted silly rock monsters and somehow it almost works for the first hour. Sure, there are some unexplained problems, such as: "How does Hercules ALWAYS manage to have his skin glisten like he's just had a baby oil rubdown and wouldn't this tend to mess up the furniture?" "If Hercules is so strong, why does he have to struggle so hard and have such difficulty killing some of the people or getting out of traps--after all, he's freakin' Hercules (or at least Maciste), right?!" "If this is a mythical tale, why is it so slow and ponderous?" "Why, oh, why, doesn't Hercules just snap the Queen's neck early in the film and put an end to everything?! Why dilly-dally?!" However, late in the film, it just goes from dull but watchable to totally stupid. When you see the rock creatures and their weird boss, you can't help but laugh as they seem like the least scary and silliest monsters in film history. Plus, when Hercules has his final showdown, it sure seems to end awfully easily and quickly.Overall, it's a watchable mess but still, clearly, a mess of a film. However, there are a few moderately interesting scenes and Sergio Ciani is some nice eye-candy, so I really think it's current ranking on the worst films list is unmerited--the bottom 500, maybe, but not #92--I've seen many films worse than this muddled mess of a film.

A large asteroid falls on earth and from that emerges a group of aliens who try to take over the ancient world by bringing an evil witch back to life. The story is, like some many of these films, incidental to the action but I really enjoyed the mix of fantasy and sci-fi. The alien is cool looking. The rock monsters are slightly underwhelming (it's the way the walk) but they're fun nonetheless, in a B-movie kinda way. Alan Steel (née Sergio Ciani) is agile even if he's more beefy (and older looking) than Steve Reeves or Mark Forest. The film transfer I saw was bad but even so I had fun watching it. I could see that it was very colorful film in its original state and I'm certain that if this film had a decent transfer, people would be pleasantly surprised by how much fun HERCULES AGAINST THE MOON MEN actually is.There are several good moments in it, including the "nicer dicer" scene, when Hercules (or Maciste) is trapped within a giant contraption which looks like the jaws of a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Cool scene. I thought the film moved at a good pace and was never dull. The actress who played the Queen was a pretty good villainess. She looked like she came straight out of an anime. The actress who played the sister had a massive rack which would make Dolly Parton jealous. The only weakness in the film would be the soundtrack. It's not really impressive.Peplums like this one are often derided and dismissed for showcasing too much muscle. First of all, so what? Secondly, films like this were made, first and foremost, for kids. Kids back then (and today) are impressed by big burly guys. Just look at the success of the über trashy WWE today, which shows more skin than any of these sometimes overlooked action flicks. Third of all, Sword and Sandal films are probably the most underrated genre ever. Without these films there wouldn't have been a Ridley Scott's Oscar winning GLADIATOR or the current box office smash, 300.Just watch HERCULES AGAINST THE MOON MEN for what it is: just a fun, colorful action movie, which happens to have some beefcake and cheesecake thrown in for good measure.
