A different way of telling a story
A Brilliant Conflict
The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
View MoreI was stuck in traffic the other day and decided to put on this film to help pass the time (don't worry, both hands were on the steering wheel and it was only generally stopped traffic.), this film caught my eye was because of the tag-line "All it takes is one big idea." which is something that struck because of its relation to the recent book I've read entitled "Think And Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill. The poster also had a fairly young (or young looking) Jeremy Renner as an added pull for me to watch the film. Jeremy Renner stars along Dallas Roberts (Milton Mamet, he's a scientist from The Walking Dead.) and Ayelet Zurer (Lara Lor-Van from the 2013 Man Of Steel film.). The film is based on the true story of Mike Cram, an inventor (played by Dallas Roberts) and his friend who's a salesman (Jeremy Renner) who have tried to execute a bunch of ideas until they come to a point where they're really down on their luck, still in search of that one big idea that will turn everything around. The on screen chemistry between the 2 lead actors was very natural, they fit their roles of best buddies quite well which helped make the film very easy to watch. The film had a warm tone to it, perhaps because the film was shot in a desert town/city, Arizona if I'm not mistaken. The film was put together very well, no wild camera angles or sequences, just simple and straightforward storytelling. This film is one of those inspirational films, after watching, it leaves you with the feeling like you need to go and create something, make something that's yours. With that feeling like you gotta rack your brain for that one idea that could change everything. I know how that feels, because that's something I've been doing for years now. Trying things, taking small steps in executing my own ideas or innovating on current ideas. It's frustrating at times but this film helped serve as a reminder to keep pressing on. To keep on trying, because amidst all the difficulties and the challenges you'll face, the next great idea is just beyond the horizon. Your big break is right there if you can just have the strength and the courage to push forward. This film takes you on a roller coaster ride into the life of an inventor, basically into the life of anyone who has ever had an idea and pursued it and did whatever it took, until the very end, no matter if that end was success or a learning experience. This film is an expanded portrayal of the saying "necessity is the mother of invention.", you'll see what I mean once you get a chance to watch it.I highly recommend this film, I have a strong feeling that it will be something you'll enjoy. Who knows, this might give you that extra inspirational push you've been looking for to pursue that idea you've had in your head for the longest time or even spark the creation of a new one. :)For my other reviews, feel free to check out tomhuang03.blogspot.com
View MoreRenner wasn't big when he made this movie. Which is exactly why this only came out after his Avengers and Bourne outputs. Which is a shame, because the movie, which is based on a true story, is actually pretty decent. The acting in it too. And not only Renner, who's just a side character in the whole thing. We get a fairly normal movie with its ups and downs. And even without knowing the real story behind this, we know where our characters will land at the end of the movie. Well it would be a surprise, if it is a surprise for anyone watching. What I didn't know, was what exactly would be the reason for that to happen. Who'd knew it would be that? And if they did, could they have come up with something like that too? Can we still?
View MoreI thought this was a great movie, not just a feel-good film but extremely well cast and fun to watch. I had not heard anything about Ingenious but thought so many facets of the film excellent. First of all the location, set design, lighting, soundtrack of the film felt exactly right. We watched this film and were swept right along with them. The people were believable and we felt so happy for them that they were successful. The acting was excellent by all the main characters in the cast. We watch a fair number of films but don't always feel any connection with the actors or narrative and for many I can take them or leave them. Congrats to all connected with this gem of a film. We bought the DVD a few days later!
View MoreI was on Google movies the other day trying to figure a way out of the heat and saw that this was playing at the "cheap seats" theatre that also screens art/independent films. Having just seen the Bourne Legacy (and having been a Renner fan since before it was cool), it struck me that this might be my only chance to actually see this. Aside from the fact that I like Renner as an actor, this was filmed in my hometown of Tucson (albeit while I was living out of state - grrr) - which makes it a must see on my list. I really enjoyed this flick. It's well paced after a slightly slow beginning, but I didn't notice it so much as I was ticking off all the places I know. While it touches on addiction (gambling and alcohol to be exact) it doesn't over dramatise it and depicts it in a very real way. You can tell that Sam (Renner) is definitely an alcoholic and gambling addict as he is more than willing to gamble with not only his best friend's money but his best friends' wife's money! That's over the top yet very true to life. It kept my attention wondering what goofy little gizmo they would come up with next and how they coped with failure after failure with optimism, and humour which is only something that true friends can achieve. Thought Matt's (Roberts) wife leaves him, the movie does a great job of not depicting either one of them as the bad person in the relationship (which is so often the case when dealing with addicts). You even get the happy ending where everyone comes together and they make their millions and they pull it off without being cheesy. If you're looking for a fun and quirky way to kill an hour or so, I would recommend this movie. If you're looking for something that's deep and emotional and will change your life, maybe this isn't for you. If, on the other hand, you're looking for superb acting, this is for you.
