That was an excellent one.

StunnaKrypto

Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.

Please don't spend money on this.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

"Inseparable" is an 11-minute movie from almost 10 years ago and it stars Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch before his rise to popularity. He plays twin brothers in this one. One of them leads a normal life with a wife and child. The other one's life looks really bad. When the first one gets sick, has a terminal illness, he offers the other one a chance to take his place. First of all, this is not a particularly creative or new story and as the entire film is based on this idea, it is simply uninspired. Second of all, this is not how it works. Why didn't he tell his wife about the date with the doctor. Are his wife and child really supposed to believe that it is completely another human, with the way he talks, the way he acts, the way he smells etc. It absolutely does not make any sense. Apart from that, it is just a stupid assumption that twin brothers are identical in terms of behavior as well and it gives us the dangerous idea that all that matters about a person and that makes somebody different from somebody else are clothes, which is a really superficial take. Matthew James Wilkinson is the writer here and as he came up with this rubbish, I cannot say I am surprised at all that he is not enjoying a prolific career. Of course they tried to make people forget about these very flawed core plot points by including dramatic music, but everybody with a working brain will realize this is complete garbage. Cumberbatch is not a great actor obviously, but he is bearable in here, still miles away from giving a convincing performance. All in all, not recommended.

I just stumbled across this short. Unfortunately, it was seven years after its release. I was amazed how much it could make you feel in 12 minutes. There is not a lot of dialogue. All of these really strong emotions are conveyed not with words but with facial expressions, camera angels, gestures and very brief glimpses at their lives which tells you a lot but there is much more that could be told. So much was said but there is so much more to be said. This film is truly incredible. Is it crazy to say that it has become a part of me. I just found it yesterday and I have already watched it 5 or 6 times. Every time I watch it I feel even more sadness, hope and longing. I feel like I missed out on something not having seen it in the seven years that it has been out there and never being able to get the rest of the story. It seems so audacious that the characters think they can just switch lives. But it is very audacious for this short movie to take you through so much. You want the movie to continue to see if they can actually pull it off. More accurately you want to see what kind of problems arise while they are trying to pull it off. How did we let this one go? If we didn't already know that BC is a brilliant bright star, we could take a look back at this astronomical performance and have all the proof you ever needed. I want to find Matthew James Wilkinson and beg him to write more!

Apparently this 11-minute film was put together to show investors. Inseparable is about two men, Joe and Charlie, either twins,(both Benedict Cumberbatch) or just two people as in The Scapegoat who happen to look exactly alike. The family man, Joe (I guess) finds out he has an inoperable brain tumor and is dying, and he meets with Charlie who appears to be homeless -- anyway, he's disheveled -- and they change identities. The other person who posted seems to think this is the most original idea in the world. Actually it's been done on every soap opera, and in films like Dead Ringer, A Stolen Life, The Dark Mirror, The Scapegoat etc. I love switched identity stories, though this one is probably a bit more somber than they usually are. What is intriguing is that Cumberbatch actually plays two different characters. Often, when people play twins, one might look different as far as hair or grooming or whatever, but basically, they have the same personality. It's very rare when an actor can actually create two completely different characters. Cumberbatch manages to do this. Charlie's voice was quite a bit lower than Joe's, and he walked and sat differently. And in the last frame, when Charlie goes to Joe's house dressed like Joe, his wife looks at him at first smiling, and then with a puzzled look on her face. Because no matter how much alike twins are, if you know them, you can tell them apart. It would be interesting to see if that's true in this story.I'm telling you this story and I actually only heard like two lines of dialogue. The rest of it is told more as a silent film, and though a couple of other things were said, I couldn't hear them.Anyway, a filmmaker can't go wrong showing an investor anything with Benedict Cumberbatch in it -- I mean, he could just show Cumberbatch sitting in a chair reading for 11 minutes and sell it -- so I hope this happens.

This is a short film that features a great story idea. Not only that, but it's handled so very well that I sure hope that this film was made to convince investors to consider putting up money for a feature-length version. If so, I can guarantee I'll go see it as the story really caught my attention. In fact, the whole thing looked absolutely perfect, though I didn't give it a 10 because I rarely do and the whole thing is a tad incomplete--though still exceptional.A young family man finds out that he's terminally ill. So he calls someone who you assume must be his brother. The ill one is well-groomed but the other is scruffy, as he's a drifter and a drinker. In an odd twist, the ill brother proposes that the other brother takes his place--you assume this is spare his family the loss. In a montage where you see the drifter shave off his beard, get a haircut and dons glasses, he's now the exact image of his IDENTICAL twin. What a great idea--I just wanted to see more and see how it would all work out, though you assume by the ending that it did.Haunting and amazingly well done--I wanna see more, please!
