Too much of everything

Boring, over-political, tech fuzed mess

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.

First of all, let me tell you that Jaan-E-Mann was not a commercial success although it was a critical success. Actually, Jaan-E-Mann deserved to be a commercial success as well. Jaan-E-Mann is a love triangle of sorts and there is nothing really novel about the story. So how is Jaan-E-Mann still interesting? Because of the way it is told. Jaan-E-Mann is narrated and shown in a beautiful way that -despite being an ordinary story- still makes you guess what will happen and still keeps you interested. A movie with a story like Jaan-E-Mann could be easily be boring and fall flat but Jaan-E-Mann doesn't. Jaan-E-Mann is also very realistic and some of you might feel that this is your own story. Also, Jaan-E-Mann has all the elements you look in a Rom-Com. It is funny and sad and has its share of romantic moments. The songs are great and what I like about the songs are that they don't stop the flow of the story but rather go WITH the story and help carry the story forward. The direction by Shirish Kunder is good. He is an under- rated director. The editing is above average. The script is great as well. The background music is great as well. Now, coming to performances: Anupam Kher, Javed Sheikh, Aman and the rest of the supporting cast were really good. Preity Zinta as Piya was good but was not given enough opportunities in this movie. Now, the hardest decision is to choose who acted better: Salman Khan or Akshay Kumar? Both of them have contrast characters. Salman Khan plays Suhaan who is an arrogant and over- confident guy while Akshay Kumar plays Agastya who is a kind, naive and shy guy. Both of them have great chemistry and play their roles beautifully. The best moments for both them were: Salman Khan: The opening song which shows Suhaan's and Piya's relationship, when he is with his daughter, when he comes to know the truth, when he finds out that Agastya and Piya are engaged and in the epic song, Sau Dard. Akshay Kumar: every time he laughs, every time he goes to woo Piya (you can see his nervousness and excitement), in the song, Ajnabi Sehar, and the scene in front of the mirror when he finds the truth. Also a thing to notice, this role is VERY different from Akshay's usual roles so to perform this role so well is a great achievement. Conclusion: Buy a DVD and watch it.

Jaan-E-Mann is an ordinary fare which has its pluses and its minuses, but it is overall an average movie which does not really work and even its entertainment value falters and disappears from time to time. At the time of release, the movie was highly anticipated by its audiences, but it released on the same day with Farhan Akhtar's superb action flick Don, thereby losing any chances to make profits. What it did get was plenty of good reviews which surprised me. Jaan-E-Maan presents an ordinary triangular love story of two guys loving the same girl. The script is quite messy and confusing, with some awful flashbacks and faulty characters which are defined only by what they generally represent: a rock star, a smart nerd, and a pretty lass in between. Jaan-E-Mann actually never takes itself seriously, it actually intends to be crazy, light and fun. It partially succeeds but overall it's not enough. The film has fantastic special effects but they too tire you at some point. The music is amazing though, and it gives the film a certain charm not given by the script. Anu Malik is the one responsible for this soundtrack, which is one of the best of 2006. "Sau Dard", "Humko Maloom Hai", "Ajnabee", and "Udh Jaana" are fantastic songs. The movie stars Salman Khan as Suhaan, and he does a decent job despite looking a bit too old for the part. Preity Zinta is given a very ordinary role and sadly so, but she has her moments, particularly towards the end. She really shines in the climax and the very last scene is awesome. Akshay Kumar steals the show with a sincere performance, though I would not call it a memorable role on its own. Jaan-E-Maan works in parts, but it's certainly not a movie I would want to revisit.

I was waiting to see another movie at my local theater and as I waited the sound from this movie attracted me. I stuck my head in for a minute and said...WOW! Forget the other movie that I came to see, this one had me from the beginning. To sum it it, its my first Hindi Movie, and after this one I know there will be more to see!! Being that I am MexicanI recommended this film to all of my friends. I especially enjoyed the way the film was set, I had never heard of these actors in my life but I did my research and was surprised that there are a lot of movies out there that have this wonderful cast involved. I am a new fan of these films!

JAANEMANN.... 1 Leave your mind at home when you go to watch this film 2 direction is great in the beginning (as it apes musicals such as Chicago and moulin rouge) but fails miserably towards the end 3 Screenplay starts off well, then falls apart. 4 script is weak, dialogues are weaker. 5 acting is standard though nothing great - akshay has a gr8 character though salman's is the meatier role. priety could have done the role in her sleep, nothing new for her. aman vermas character and relation was left undefined for a long time- bad role, well acted. 6 the music is tuneful and enjoyable. but would have been better just as instrumental 7 Lyrics are PATHETIC (lyrics would have been better if they were written by a nursery school child) 8 editing was surprisingly patchy in parts. odd, as the film's director used to be an editortrivia: a character is named preity zintakova. aman verma's characters name is zubin HORNIBOI (hahahah)best: Akshay's Laughter. THE CUTE KID worst: SALMAN'S COSTUMES!! The annoying kids and family members towards the end!
