Memorable, crazy movie

BelSports

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

Just intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?

Before I write one thing, please let me say that I love Shah Rukh Khan! I think he is a wonderful actor and just his facial expressions alone in a movie have sold me on that. So, this is a good movie and SRK makes a great Samar Anand, both as a civilian and a Major, but there is something about this movie that won't let me give it a higher score. I can't quite put my finger on it. It may be the differences in ages between SRK (Samar) and Katrina Kaif (Meera) that I struggled with, both in real life, and in the attempt to make them look closer in age in the movie.Shah Rukh Khan has always looked younger than his actual age to me, but the 19 year age difference between he and Katrina Kaif was difficult for me to put aside. Granted, if I was an actress in Indian movies doing my first kissing scene, Shah Rukh Khan would be my pick, but even so, I think someone maybe a little older than Katrina Kaif could have been a better fit for the movie. She didn't have to be his age, but possibly have a few more years on her. Samar always looked much older to me than Meera in the whole movie, especially when he was supposed to be 28. I didn't have a problem with Anushka Sharma's (Akira) age because she was meant to be younger than him, and there was no actual romantic relationship between them.I did like the story and the ending, and I was very glad that Major Anand didn't get blown up at any point in the movie. I kept waiting for that to happen and was going to be really ticked off if it had. :-)Over all, it was a good movie and I enjoyed it, but I do think another actress (and I don't mean Priyanka Chopra) could have made a better Meera and had better chemistry with Major Anand.

JAB TAK HAI JAAN, Yash Chopra, 2012JAB TAK HAI JAAN (As long as there's life in me) 2012, Has everything we have come to expect from a large scale Yash Chopra Romantic Drama: exotic locations (London and the Himalayas) plenty of large scale dances, a fantastic hero, Shahrukh Khan, doing his usual shtik in peak form, two beautiful young heroines, and a complex double love story that will be doubly frustrated for most of the film, but will work out to a happy conclusion at the very end, just barely. The only problem is that none of it works. The situations are constantly forced and ridiculously unbelievable, the main heroine, Katrina Kaif, as a doe-eyed pathetically beautiful wealthy Jesus Freak, whose devotion to Jesus will finesse her devotion to Khan — is a ridiculous premise to build an Indian love story on, and the whole thing feels like a prepackaged set of set pieces that were cobbled together — hastily with no regard for logic or credibility — to make a final statement for this fabled director's long distinguished career.I was personally expecting much more from this mature master, and was extremely disappointed. In fact, I was astounded, as the stupidity of the story and events kept mounting –reaching a climax of absurdity when SRK is allowed to defuse a bomb on the London Metro because "he seems to know what he is talking about" when he starts mumbling bomb defusing mumbo-jumbo out on the platform — while walking against the fleeing crowd. The feeling I got was that Yash thought that if he pairs his favorite actor SRK up with the hottest female in Bollywood, Katrina Kaif, backs that up with a secondary love story involving one of the hottest newcomers, Anushka Sharma, and stitches that together with no matter how improbable a plot, it couldn't miss as his swan song statement.Critical response in India has been respectful, to say the least, and basically positive — but one wonders if this is not just because you can't pan a film by such a great man when he dies right after it's finished. If this film had been made by anyone with a lesser name I think it would have been panned to high heaven and laffed right out of town, but Yash Chopra was a sacred cow in Bollywood by the time he decided to call it quits with one final effort. The physical effort was obviously there, but great films to not live by effort alone. Because of the star pairings and director's prestige this movie will probably be a box-office hit, but frankly speaking, this is arguably Yash Chopra's silliest and worst work ever. A throwaway swan song, if ever there was one.

The movie, being the last directed movie of the well-known director Yash Chopra, was predicted to be a glorious one. But, things didn't quite work out in the right manner. The story doesn't seem to win the audience's attentiveness. It was neither too good nor too bad. When it comes to performances, Shah Rukh Khan was mediocre, not much emphasizing. Katrina Kaif looked gorgeous, but couldn't influence much with her acting skills. Anushka Sharma was pleasing and satisfying. Scenes involving her were watchable.Yash Chopra's direction, needless to mention, was decent as ever. The music which had contributions from prominent personalities like AR Rahman (music director) and Gulzar (lyricist) was expected to be much, much more excelling, but was moderate. You may or may not adore the movie, it depends on the kind of movie you prefer watching. For me, it was another typical romantic flick.

I knew this would be awesome, after watching around half of the film, I understand the story is different and epic, nice plot, great direction and awesome acting of everyone. I like the chemistry between Katrina and Shahrukh, this is amazing, in this movie you cannot imagine their age difference. Everything is nice. Hope I will see it again, but always watch in good quality video, otherwise you will miss some special scene. Shahrukh is brilliant as well as before. The songs are amazing. Specially I like the dance part of this movie and how Shahrukh propose Katrina, this is awesome, I never seen this kind of scene before to any Hindi film.
