From my favorite movies..
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
View MoreGreat example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
View MoreStrong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
View MoreI don't know why this idea of LOVE BEYOND BOUNDARIES fascinates me that much. If you see this movie from a critical eye you will find the concept against the values of eastern culture, but they way Rani and Shahrukh acted this movie is flawless and one of my all time favorite movies from Indian film industry. I would say no one from their industry can play this role the way they have done, the way they pretend to hide and show-off their feelings, at least for me it was super natural. Take a bow the best actors. Among all of the circle of my friends and family, I am the only person who likes this movie, no one else. I would say that probably this movie hit a very less number of spectators, that's the reason it doesn't have the rating which it actually deserves. For those who have not watched this flick, if your thinking is limited to the boundaries our society have set for us then you will not like this one, but if you will try to understand that this can happen in real world too, then the way this movies is filmed, you will find it spectacular.
View MoreI don't know why the Indian film makers are always inspired or is it that it is a coincidence but it had occurred so many times , something has to be divine about it . Plagiarism at its best just that they spoil it especially if the person is Karan johar ,first he should learn direction i guess or better hire someone. Acting is acceptable but scripting needs lot to be worked on especially dialogs. Moreover why karan johar always have to be so lavish why they all have to be rich. while most of Indians are poor or middle class why didn't he take the aspect of middle class life and struggler could have easily made the story more realistic and touching.Because I don't think the portrayal of rich society adds so much to it . Further why the story always need to be told in foreign countries if it is expense then may be acceptable because i don't think only NRI have extra marital affairs ,in India it occurs too So mR KJ seriously learn some story telling skills else u can never be a raconteur.Acting by SRK,AB baby is good but scripting and story don't do justice to them.Amitabh is wasted ,i don't understand what he is doing there .he could have watched the movie in cinema theater i guess or maybe he wanted a live experience .
View MoreLike an Expensive Melodramatic Indian Soap Opera In New York Karan Johar attempts to make a 'so-called mature' movie but the handling of the themes and the storytelling is very amateur. Many of the comedic sequences, especially the silly ones like 'black beast' (racist?) were cringe inducing. Much of the dialogues are the kind you would hear in soap operas. The characters are poorly written. Rhea is supposed to be a strong woman who loves her job and family and while her quality time with family is limited, her excuse to Dev is that she's 'forced' to be the 'man' of the family? This is not the kind of thing one would hear a strong independent woman say. Then there's Maya, who is also a strong character and yet she lets herself be treated so harshly by Dev. Sexy Sam is quite a pathetic caricature blend of a sleazy Casanova-type old hag (who only seems to sleep with white girls that are about 40 years younger than him) and the loving father who's there for his son and whatever. The last hour is so laughable because of the sheer awfulness in execution, acting and writing. Johar's direction lacks aim and focus while his script seriously lacks consistency. The overall soundtrack is far from memorable but two songs are quite beautiful: 'Tumhi Dekho Na' (artistically shot) and 'Mitwa'. Not surprisingly, the background score is heavily intrusive. Shahrukh Khan pretty much overacts in every single one of his scenes. Dev isn't supposed to be likable nor sympathetic but the way Khan plays him is frustrating to the viewer especially with his overdone expressions and measured tone of voice. In my opinion, this is perhaps Rani Mukherjee's worst performance to date. She fails to demonstrate the complexity and depth of Maya and could someone ask Rani or Johar why Maya keeps crying so much? Abhishek Bachchan tries to be funny and charming but he's not entirely convincing which, unintentionally, makes it easy to understand why Maya doesn't want him. Amitabh Bachchan is incredibly irritating as Sexy Sam (though he is not as bad as Khan) but otherwise he does a fine job in a number of sequences, especially the ones with Kiron Kher. Kher is quite superb as the grounded mother and Sam's confidant. Preity Zinta stands out as she delivers an impressively restrained performance with grace and élan. She easily steals the show from Bachchan, Khan and Mukherjee. It's interesting that Johar has attempted to tackle a mature contemporary theme and even though he failed, I think his intentions were sincere. Perhaps, this is a path Johar shouldn't tread yet.
View MoreAfter candy floss cinema, Karan Johar tries to make a realistic relationship film but sadly with his own set formula Which means loads of tears, stupidity, too much stupid comedy and nonsense romanceIn this film he also shows Amitabh in one of his worst roles ever, As Sexy Sam, the least said the betterSRK- Preity Track is done to death and also Abhishek- Rani How SRK and Rani fall in love is a mystery and the comedy scenes on the sofa are outrageous Also the entire track where SRK doubts that someone is hidden in the house, and Rani too doubts Abhishek for something else gets on the nerves That scene looks like a follow up to another stupid scene from KAL HO NAA HO The second half gets serious and better but here too the film gets boring and the end is bizarreKaran Johar fails in exploring the characters properly and the drama isn't engaging either Music is saving grace Performances Shahrukh Khan overacts in every scene, he gets to the nerves with his fuming, panting.etc and you don't hate the character as much as you hate his performance Abhishek is restrained and the best part of the film Rani follows her usual trend of crying or smiling excessively Preity gets less scope and is alright Amitabh hams badly though he is better in second half Kirron Kher is alright
