An action-packed slog

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

To say this movie shouldn't be made is not the problem. When a story like the Scarborough Rapist is as famous as it got, eventually a movie would be made regardless of boycott. However to purposefully dilute the storyline, making it seem that Homolka is the helpless victim just shows how evil this world can be. The fact that it got made, after Homolka's release just adds battery acid to the already open wounds of the victim's family. Speaking as someone who grew up in Scarborough and heard the story most of my life, I was surprised how epically and ethically wrong this movie was. I hope that this director is happy in counting the money he made from the blood of innocent people.

I watched this film as I am a huge fan of Misha Collins. I didn't know anything about the film prior to watching (and i just found out its a true story- very, very tragic) but before I knew anything about it and I watched it I thought it was a great movie. Yes, it was very horrible- especially since it actually happened. But the acting was great and the way it was presented was very good. Misha Collins is such a sweet, adorable guy in real I was utterly shocked by his creepy, psychotic character in this movie. He played it really, really, really well- he is an excellent actor. I was really captured by the film and felt very sorry for Karla. I think this is an excellent movie- definitely not for everyone, since it is very explicit and creepy, but a good film for the right people.

Well, I have written reviews about people wrongly convicted, as in the movie "The Trials of Darryl Hunt" (a must-see), a scary discourse on a sometime court procedural. And now conversely, a comment about someone rightfully convicted. However, she didn't nearly get her due behind bars. So I guess that's not so "rightfully." Hence, I guess sometimes 'justice' (whatever that word means) - is like the wind and leaves. On any given day, it scatters about to and with the whim of the day.As a movie, this has the feel of Lifetime or the Hallmark channel written all over it. It is basically Karla at her eight-year prison mark meeting with a psychiatrist and discussing events from her case in hopes of parole. We see everything in retrospect - as she and the shrink discuss it. Prepon is good and goes through the motions of what this unfortunate script requires. I recommend watching a documentary rather than this dramatization. It is better towards the end, but with all the movies available, unless you're ardently following this case - skip it.Sidenote: With all due respect to the victims - this can be quite funny in a few spots, but only in the way tragedy borders on comedy. Megalomaniac-psychopath-sociopath-misanthropic Bernardo, GET this, actually thinks he's a rapper. These scenes when he is attempting to rap somewhat place you in a vortex and you're caught in a glazing gaze not knowing what to think or do. I laughed. But in the confusion of blowing leaves - it's not so easy to know what to do.

Hoping for parole, chain-smoking icy blonde Laura Prepon (as Karla Homolka) tells prison psychiatric Patrick Bauchau (as Dr. Arnold) how she met handsome serial killer husband Misha Collins (as Paul Bernardo), and became his murderous co-dependent, in flashbacks… After a whirlwind courtship, the newlyweds begin by accidentally offing Ms. Prepon's pretty sister, Cherilyn Hayres (as Tammy); her overdose ruins Mr. Collins' plan for an unconscious deflowering.Soon, it's obvious Collins gets off on violent sex with young women. Prepon paints Collins as a spell-binding rapist. Losing her will, Prepon tells Collins, "It's my mission in life to make you feel good." When he begins to bring rape victims home for threeways, Prepon is led to help… Unconvincing in explaining her behavior, the film seems to be asking if the convicted "Karla" should go free; while the lead performances are okay, the insignificant story is dead on arrival.**** Karla (1/20/06) Joel Bender ~ Laura Prepon, Misha Collins, Patrick Bauchau, Sarah Foret
