A bit overrated, but still an amazing film

Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

The sexual chemistry between the cop and the boyfriend is so thick you could cut it with a bedazzled knife. The fact that they never end up together is the only real negative here.

KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE is a cheesy, campy, B-movie horror flick of the 1980s that fits in well with the fellow likes of NIGHT OF THE CREEPS and THE BLOB. The story is simplicity in itself and concerns a troop of aliens who arrive on Earth disguised as the creepiest-looking clowns you'll ever see; their job is to go around town and kill and capture as many humans as possible. Truth be told, this is a film which doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and the human characters are very much left in the background. However, it's still a lot of fun, particularly triumphing in terms of the set design and excellent look of the villains themselves. Expect rubbery gore scenes, lots of vivid bright colours, John Vernon hamming up a treat, and lots of sheer weirdness on display.

Killer Clowns from Outer Space is a peculiar horror comedy. That isn't quite as bonkers as its title would have you to believe. Aliens arrive in a small town via a spaceship that looks exactly like a circus tent. Their goal? to take all the townspeople and turn them into intergalactic cotton candy snacks. After most of the town is taken, it's up to a ragtag misfit group of young adults to take the fight to the Alien clowns.Going into this film I was expecting a bat-sh*t crazy time. Instead for the wonderfully campy story it played itself far too safe. One of the biggest complaints I have with the film is the poor lack of humour. Other then the funky costume design, there are no real jokes to be found in this film. Sure it's fun to watch, and for it's small budget the film is highly accomplished. There just seemed to be a lack of mischief that a film like The Gremlins perfected. On the plus side the film does have a nasty side to it, when certain scenes need it.Other then the Alien clown gimmick the film doesn't have much going for it. The characters are all pretty standard, they are all given typical clichéd personalities, but it didn't bother me as much with this film. It's clear to see the actors are all having a good time with this film. The film has a brilliant concept, which in the hands of a more accomplished genre film-maker such-as Joe Dante, could of made for a memorable cult classic. Instead this film whilst it does have its moments, felt like a missed opportunity.

I honestly can't fathom all these stellar reviews, especially considering the potential charms of actually enjoyable B-Movies (i.e. Miami Connection, No Retreat No Surrender). This film is utterly boring and didn't make me laugh once within the first 40 minutes (I stopped it after that). A total waste of time.I find it impossible that only a quarter of the written reviews here are poor ratings. Here's mine. Hope I saved at least one person some time. Now onward, in my search for better B-Movies.
