A Disappointing Continuation

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

There are plenty of reviews focusing on one or another aspect of this film, and therein lies the problem. It has flashes of greatness weighted down by a lack of direction. By trying to be all things to all viewers, it ends up being unsatisfying to all. I visited the accompanying website where you have the option to view the same events from three different points of view. That summarizes the problem with the film. On the web site you can choose an angle and stick with it. In the film you cannot, and the attempt to show all three points of view simultaneously leads to nothing but confusion. The relatively high rating is for flashes of quality that will stick with me. The scourging of Jesus is extremely vivid, and will stay with me. The crucifixion likewise gave an image that I found very realistic--I walked away thinking I had better idea what crucifixion was really like. Seeing the character of Jesus show real struggles with his temper also put more of a face to the man--I had a better sense of the Biblical teaching of "fully human" really means. But these insights were few and far between and ultimately couldn't overcome the other problems with the film.

A lot of research and money obviously went into the production of this very good movie. Lots of extras in the cast, for realistic crowd scenes making the film most realistic and true to historic details, as well as the scriptures. One can gain a deep insight into what Jesus of Nazereth actually went thru during his lifetime. A good movie to watch even if you are not a Christian, just for the other accurate historical events that were going on at the time, concerning not only Jesus, but the conflicts going on between the Jewish people and their Roman occupiers. Well worth watching, or even owning (whenever it is available on DVD), so you can watch it again and again especially if you 'are' a Christian. We plan to watch it at every special season during the Christian year that celebrates the life and times of Jesus.

As a Christian I found their inaccurate depiction of Jesus to be very offensive. They basically made Him out to be an ordinary man, when in reality and in the Bible Jesus was extraordinary. This film takes the Divinity of Jesus Christ away, it's a shame that some people out there are going to get the wrong depiction of Jesus because of this film. Knowing about the book I wasn't expecting much from this film, but I didn't expect it to be this bad and to be so riddled with Biblical inaccuracies. You can definitely tell that the producer and director didn't do much Biblical research before they made this film. The only reason I even watched the entire show is so I could honestly know about the film and not judge something that I didn't fully watch. If you want to watch a movie that really tries to capture the true Divinity of Jesus Christ, and that sticks very closely to the events in the Bible I recommend you watch the "Son of God" and "The Passion of the Christ."

Yes - as other reviewers have observed, Killing Jesus departs in some not insignificant way from NT accounts but depicting the humanity of Jesus more than A.D. or The Bible was thought provoking not insulting. Jesus is shown to laugh and be playful like a normal man - never profane but just "out of character" in certain scenes from the somber portrayals in other renditions. His anger in the Temple market even rises to the level of pushing a man away with force.Haaz Sleiman's portrayal of Christ was refreshing not only because he allowed us to identify with him more, but also because of his Middle Eastern accent and appearance. To the devout Christian reviewers that were offended by a Muslim playing Christ - rethink your position. What better way to learn about Jesus than to study and play his character? I for one will not cast a stone against this talented actor who as a Muslim no doubt suffered criticism from his own people for portraying Christ. "So it's an honor for me, as someone who was raised Muslim, to play's him. It's beyond an honor." Haaz Sleiman - Christianity Today.
