It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.
View MoreIt's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
View MoreIt’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
View MoreIt is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
View MoreTwo veterans of the Bosnian War, one American, one Serbian, find their unlikely friendship tested when one of them reveals their true intentions. Killing Season is a film that alot of people didn't appreciate and to be honest i'd like to give my own side of the story, first of all both Robert De Niro and John Travolta were brilliant especially Travolta who was amazing and menacing with that Serbian accent that was really scary at times and 2nd of all there's some terrific action packed sequences and one scene in particular involving John's character and an arrow that looked like it hurt alot. As for the ending? To me it showcased forgiveness and the guts of respecting the opponent and that to me? It means something. (A+)
View MoreI am a fan of both of the main actors in this film and the concept sounded pretty interesting so I watched it but this is one of the worst films ever. The premise of the film sees a man looking to get revenge on an old adversary because of events that happened in a previous war. Now Robert deniro is a great actor but he had nothing to do in this film. He couldn't deliver a decent performance with this script and his character was so boring and bland that you just don't care. But my God John travolta is absolutely awful in this movie. He has the worst Serbian accent I have ever heard and his beard made it so distracting. His character was not compelling at all and some of the actions he takes in this film are just confusing. Deniros family were pointless in the film and felt like a confusing pointless addition to the film. The story of the film is extremely sloppy and stupid. Not only does this film completely contradict the Bosnian war but it doesn't use it enough at all. You don't believe the situations in this film and you don't care either. The script is diabolical, the dialogue has no weight to it and you don't feel any drama when the film truly wants you too. The style is pointlessly graphic and overly used to get religious points across. Also the pacing of the film is terrible because after 30 minutes I wanted to truly turn the film off before the action started. Overall this is a shocking film that needs to be avoided at all costs.
View MoreThis could have been much better than it was, it would have needed a new script though, and to be perfectly frank, some better acting too. Both Robert De Niro and John Travolta played familiar roles, and unfortunately Travolta especially, played his both woodenly, and unconvincingly. The dodgy accent didn't help either.....The setting for the movie was fantastic though, really beautiful looking country. But obviously that's not enough to lift a movie out of mediocrity. I liked the premise of the film, but felt let down by what was in all honesty a B-movie played by A-list actors.
View MoreSTAR RATING: ***** Saturday Night **** Friday Morning *** Friday Night ** Sunday Night * Monday MorningBenjamin Ford (Robert De Niro) was a US foot solider who served on the ground in the Bosnian war in the '90's, but who now lives a quiet, isolated existence in the mountains. However, one man, Emil Kovac (John Travolta), a Serbian man Ford was meant to have killed, cannot forgive and forget and has hunted him down to his mountain retreat. Initially friendly, Kovac soon has Ford locked in a deadly game of cat and mouse."De Niro and Travolta, on screen for the first time ever", the publicity on the cover for this film proudly booms. That would be a small screen, however, in this neck of the woods anyway, as Killing Season arrived straight to DVD over here, which sort of sets the bells of doom ringing well beforehand. It's still an interesting pair up, though, but it's quite clear this isn't going to have the sort of quality it would have had if it had came out maybe twenty years ago. It actually opens quite well, after the opening shaky camera battle sequence, establishing an atmospheric tension before the lead paths have even crossed, but somehow when they do, all the components of the machine fall apart, and it just descends on a downward spiral.De Niro tries to inject his role with some dynamism and gravitas, but you can never shake the feeling that it's another one of his 'pay cheque' roles. Travolta, never the most naturalistic actor, here has a dodgy Croatian accent to carry, along with a silly mountie beard. It's a curious pairing, that doesn't work due to the writing they have to contend with, including an unconvincing meeting, an initial bonding that does nothing to establish any menace or sense of unease, and an unexpectedly reflective and gentle ending that shakes it all up. After all this, you might think the ending would be the best bit, and it is, but in a good way, with some beautiful cinematography of the mountains and a nice, gentle song to go with it. It's another real time thriller, meaning it's at least a short affair, but that just shows what a shame it is. **
