Very well executed
I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
View MoreThis is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
View MoreStrong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
View MoreWhy would anyone watch a movie that features Seth Green as a gangster or any movie with Vin Diesel for that matter? Personally, I had very little interest in this film, but I wanted to see it because of John Malkovich. He is so funny and no one plays the bad guy, better than he does. As always, Malkovich was brilliant, in an otherwise awful movie. Knockaround Guys is the story of four gangster's kids, who are tired of being nobodies, and decide it's time to make a score of their own. A score that they manage to royally screw up. It's a good premise for a movie and it was written pretty well. They did a great job casting veteran actors like Malkovich and Dennis Hopper to play the crime bosses, but they really blew it when it came to casting their kids. Seth Green isn't believable at all, seriously, I think the little kid in the beginning of the movie could kick his. They try to cover up the fact that he doesn't fit the role by making him a drug addict, but it doesn't work out. Vin Diesel is another one, he may be terrific in crazy action films that hardly have any lines, but when the role is something of substance, and requires a personality, Diesel is the last person who should be cast. He is one of the worst actors I've ever seen, but there is a bright side. When Arnold Schwarzenegger first started acting, he was pretty terrible too, but after gaining some experience, he blossomed into a superstar, who gave us some great films. I hope the same can be said about Diesel in a few years, until then, unless you're a die hard John Malkovich fan, you can avoid seeing this giant mess of a film.
View MoreVin Diesel was my reason for seeing this and it was worthy. This movie is average on the good side, it's worth watching once and I don't think I'll watch this again. The premise is a gangster loses money at a small town airport so his three friends travel there to help him find the money so they won't get killed.Barry Pepper is the lead, he plays Matty, I forgot his last name, it's not important, the son of a New York Mafia under boss. He wants to become a citizen, have a normal life but he can't because no one wants to hire him because of his father. He's likable, he's an anti-hero who wants to do his job and not hurt anyone. Vin Diesel plays a tough guy, a muscular guy named Taylor. The character may be a typical Vin Diesel character but he isn't one dimensional. Seth Green plays Johnny Marbles, the guy who lost the money. He's paranoid, he naturally wants to make up for his error and he's supposed to be a funny character. Yes the acting is great, in fact that's the bread and butter or cherry.According to a few other reviews here this movie has some subtle dark humour. The humour sucked for me, maybe a few jokes will make me laugh if and when I'll watch this again. The movie's pace is fine, I never felt bored and anyone can find the first half hour slow. There are a few weak surprises and no I won't spoil them. Don't expect a lot of action or violence, maybe every movie store chain labelled this as an action movie. It's weird the Ocean movies are labelled that way and the first Pirates movie is labelled as a drama. This movie is an okay time killer, it's worth renting or watching on TV which I did.
View MoreI gave this movie a 3 only because the bar scene near the beg/middle of the film was pretty good. Other than that the script was poorly written with a lot of lame dialog. Adding to that was the lame cast for this movie (they couldn't pull even pull Frank Vincent to start in this B list movie).John Malkovich was accent was the most irritating part of the film. He tried so hard to sound like a cross between Christopher Walken & Armand Assante. Most of the cast of supposed-to-be mob guys aren't even Italian (some don't even resemble Italians). It is full of clichés and should only be watched by teenagers who don't know any better because they have the attention span of a gnat.
View MoreIt's easy to understand the attraction the mafia does on modern filmmakers' imagination. The representation of that kind of life represents how society hates that.Since the movies were young that kind of life has been portrayed at both sights, like villains or the anti-heroes.But a lot of movies about that make a glamorization of that sad sight of the human existence. So,it's very weird to see the cruelty and consequences of that activity with honesty and on a realistic mode.Knockround guys has a glamorization about that kind of life but it shows honesty, realism and a face very little seen about that kind of life. When Hollywood's big studios try to tell a story like the one which has Knockround guys,it's common to see how the story finishes on a second sight to take importance the famous actors or director that are the opposite the story requires. We have seen that on films like Casino, which are multimillionaire inversions, but they feel very shallow because of Hollywood's intervention. The best movies of that genre are the independent ones. So,Knockround guys is next to other great films of that genre like The yards,The usual suspects or Reservoir dogs, which their low budgets are better used to tell that kind of stories than the multimillionaire inversions the big studios do.Knockround guys is a great movie, totally fun.Barry Pepper is great on his role and he gives humanity to his character.Seth Green is an awesome actor and he does a superb performance here.Vin Diesel makes a great and very controlled performance and I think this is his best performance.Dennis Hopper and John Malkovich are unforgettable.Hopper has an excellent performance and he brings the movie's best dialogs.Malkovich makes his character very realistic.Knockround guys is a great and very fun film.I had a great time watching it.
