Very disappointing...

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.

"Komisches Reck" is a German silent short film that runs for under one minute and had its 120th anniversary this year. It is among the earliest German movies of all time actually and the Skladanowskys were the German (far less popular) response to Georges Méliès and other French filmmaking pioneers. It is part of a collection named Wintergartenprogramm, which is really short as well and basically a summary of Skladanowsky's early works. But back to this one here: We see two acrobats. They show us a couple tricks, nothing too spectacular and in the end there is a little slapstick to explain the "Komisches" in the title. However, it is not really funny enough to watch it more than once, Still, thumbs up for Skladanowsky on being part of the early days of film.
