Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??

How wonderful it is to see this fine actress carry a film and carry it so beautifully.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

The film may be flawed, but its message is not.

The idea of this film has some genuine life, but the acting simply slaughters it. At first glance, I thought Last Stop for Paul was a travel documentary, but I quickly discovered that it wasn't. The dialogue was predictable, stale and fabricated. The two main characters are not professional actors, making for some almost laughable tête-à-tête. Each conversation lacked any sort of verisimilitude. If you can get past the dreadful acting, there are aspects of this film that can be thoroughly enjoyed. For a geography buff like myself, I took pleasure in the scenery, especially when the pair stops in Greece and Vietnam. The producers took time to actually exhibit the landscape too, helping stimulate the viewer where the plot and dialogue don't.Overall, this film fails miserably in the acting department, but the cinematography is great. Again, the intent of Last Stop for Paul isn't that bad, but it simply didn't take off like it should have.

What an ingenious way to make a film. Mandt, the director of this film, made this movie with a brief outline and a lot of guts. He traveled to countless countries, taught amazingly interesting locals how to act and somehow managed to make an engaging film in the process. The movie is about two friends that travel the world, spreading the ashes of a dead friend everywhere they go and posing as writers for Frommers travel guides in order to scam free hotel rooms. It's about storytelling above all else. Just interesting, funny and touching stories about traveling. I heard that most of the stories are true, which makes this film even better. The editor of the movie even acts in it. When you watch the film, it's hard to tell that it isn't just reality. But you learn from the credits, that it took a lot of rehearsal from the locals to get them to act in the scenes. I don't want to spoil the movie. Just go see it. It's a very enriching experience.

Beautifully shot and self produced on DV cams, this movie really shines. It starts out being narrated by Charlie (director Neil Mandt) He has a hilarious fast way of speaking and is very witty. The movie starts out fast and never stops. Charlie and Cliff take a trip around the world in honor of their dead friend. They meet the funniest people along the way. One guy drinks snake blood, passes out and they all end up in jail. Another guy almost drives them off a mountain. The best scene in the movie is where Charlie is caught alone on a Thai boat and the driver whips out a huge knife. Charlie is obviously scared, but tries to keep his cool and talk his way out of the situation. He asks what the knife is for and the guy says for protection from bad people. It's a tense moment that quickly turns out well for him. But it's the kind of moment that you could never make without being completely in the moment in another country with the people you meet and getting them to act. Future filmmakers should all see this movie. It's truly inspired and I HIGHLY recommend you check it out at a film festival or buy the DVD.

I saw this movie at a film festival with a couple friends. We didn't really know what to expect, but by the end we were all loving it. The movie is filmed documentary style and follows two travelers as they trace the globe. The story is great and so are the actors. My favorite thing about the movie though is how it was made. The director and the other actors flew around the world and got the people they met in other countries to act in the movie. I mean, can you imagine that? Walking up to total strangers and getting them in your movie. That really takes guts and it took an already great film to the next level. It amazed me at how well the acting was. Just goes to prove what you can accomplish with a good director. I really enjoyed this movie and all the gorgeous shots of the world that it contained.
