Am I Missing Something?
A Disappointing Continuation
This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
View MoreIt's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
View MoreThis movie started off as a promising one. As it progressed, you would already know its base story-line, but that isn't a bad thing itself. It could have become a typical zombie movie with its thrills and all. If done right, still great to see, as always. But you start noticing this is actually a comedy. The 2nd half of the movie completely turns the whole thing upside down to a full-on comedy that was not even funny. That's a big disappointment and you actually don't want to watch anymore but still sit through it anyway. It goes like this throughout the entire 2nd half of the movie. No content at all. Even though the 1st half was promising and set up a great foundation for a good movie. Also because the actors were great and the setting and refinements of the movie by general were all good.
View MoreThe synopsis of this movie is what caught my interest, and the DVD cover also brandished 'the best zom-rom-com since Shaun of the Dead'. So I will say that the playing field for this movie was right there for a home-run.But the movie turned out to be just another mediocre zombie movie, and I will say that "Warm Bodies" was much, much better than "Life After Beth". So there is a comparison for you right there. While "Life After Beth" started out alright, then director Jeff Baena set up the scenario for more than he could handle, and t he movie just fell to a heap of disappointing pieces. There wasn't a single moment throughout the movie that made me laugh, so for a comedy, then the movie failed to deliver. The movie was adequate entertainment, don't get me wrong, but it hardly sustains more than a single viewing. The cast list was good though, and people were doing good jobs with their given roles and characters."Life After Beth" was a mediocre movie that set out to accomplish more than it could handle, and as such it scores a very mediocre five out of ten stars from me.
View MoreLife After Beth is a Comedy/ Drama/Horror film about Zach Orfman ( Dane Dehaan) who just lost his girlfriend Beth (Aubrey Plaza) . He spends a lot of time at Beth's parent and finds it difficult to accept that Beth isn't alive anymore. But when all of a sudden the parents don't answer the phone anymore and don't let Zach in anymore he is starting get frustrated. He keeps coming and suddenly sees Beth walking in the house. That leaves Zach with a lot of questions and Beth's father is letting him now ad tries to explain. Beth has been resurrected but she can't know, Zach must find a way to deal with this. And tries to solve the problem. While this film is mainly meant as a Comedy there are also so much emotional scenes included. The scenes between Dane Dehaan and Aubrey Plaza are amazing. They deliver an fantastic job and give a great performance which helps the audience help to understand their characters. The scenes between them are very funny and they bring that over fantastic. Further casting deliver an acceptable job doing their role but Dane Dehaan and Aubrey Plaza deliver definitely the best performance.I think this script has been written really great. There are some romantically moment, some Dramatic moments for the main character, but also there are lots of Comedy moments. The story has been written beautifully and the characters are developed on screen really great. The thing about the film which I disliked was when more Zombies came you really didn't see them doing anything particular. There were no moments of action scenes, you didn't see them attack. And it took really long before they suddenly knew how to kill them. You, also, never saw them find out how to kill a Zombie, they just suddenly knew. While there was a moment in the film were Zach had to visit someone finding out what happened. But he never heard how to kill them, they never explained how to kill it- they just suddenly knew. Also I wasn't happy with the ending because Zach should never be able to love someone so soon already. Because he still loved Beth so much.Rating this film was quite difficult but I think give the rating : 6/10. Dane dehaan and Aubrey Plaza's performance helped to make this film great to watch. The comedy moments were also really funny but there were a few things which I disliked about the film. And that was all the reason for this rating.
View MoreLife After Beth is a completely failed attempt at a new, growing subgenre in the zombie world. I didn't think Warm Bodies was all that great, but this makes that look like the best movie of the year! It seems like the writers had a decent idea about having a kid's girlfriend killed and brought back to life as a zombie, but that's as far as they got and didn't know how to fill the scenes. The relationship is the focal point of the movie but there's no depth there to be found, as I said above, it feels thin. Life After Beth is also billed as a comedy, but there certainly not enough humor in the movie to call it that, this is more of a slow, drama with no substance. The whole time watching the movie, I felt there was something missing, some type of surprise or something to would put the movie in a higher gear, but that never happened. Beth stays in neutral and the characters (who are just as bland as the storytelling) just go from scene to scene offering nothing exciting for us to bite into. There are no high points in the movie, everything just rings average at best and as a whole the movie is completely forgettable. As I said above, if you are interested in a 'zom-rom-com', check out Warm Bodies over this.Full review at simplefilmreviews.com!
