Let's be realistic.
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
View MoreThe story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
View MoreThis is a fairly tame film about to young people who meet in Yanbian, China to participate in a excavation there of ancient Korean treasures. Chul-soo (In-Seong-Jo) is a lazy guy of privilege in South Korea who is going to Yanbian to be able to graduate. Yeong-Hee (the fairly beautiful Sa-rang Kim) is from North Korea and is an honors student. Chul-soo wants to be with her but, of course, given the conflict between the Koreas, it is quite a difficult thing to even think about, especially from Yoeng-hee's eyes. The film is political in that respect, but its simplistic in its approach, aiming low so you care less about their respective country's ideological differences and concentrate more on their relationship. Its an okay film, mostly a date movie. If you like these kind of films, its okay. Otherwise, it is not essential.
