When miner Charley 'Boomer' Baxter sets off a series of massive mining detonations in West Virginia, a gigantic earthquake is soon rocking the North Atlantic, exposing a deep seismic fault that runs the length of the North American continent. Joining forces with government seismology expert Dr Amy Lane, Boomer must now race against time to stop the chasm that is threatening to tear America - and the entire world - in half.

I don't get all these bad reviews. This is not a big budget Hollywood movie. Why judge it as one? This is a made-for-tv flick and using that standard this movie is more than OK. It was nice to see Murphy play a serious role. It is too bad she is no longer with us. She could have gone on to be an A list actor.

The film is dreadful, corny, poor acting, full of clichés, bad fx -- just awful. I watched it all the way through because I loved Brittany Murphy, and I was intrigued to see whether it would improve. No, it got worse and worse and finally disappeared down a sink hole. For God's sake! Didn't anyone SEE how extremely ILL Brittany was? Her face was gaunt, hollowed out, eyes deep, lips falsely pumped up, her body almost a skeleton which was emphasised by the very thin-legged pants she wore. She seemed lifeless, just mouthing her lines, not emoting, so sad. She was totally MIS-CAST in this movie of course, but probably was in no shape to appreciate that. The film came out about ten weeks before she died. The real megafault is that no one apparently assisted her! Surely, if necessary, the producers of the flick could have FORCED her to seek medical attention?WHY? WHY? WHY didn't someone help her? Such a deep and terrible tragedy. And her husband died shortly afterwards. God rest their souls.

Shocking acting to a dull and predictable plot with truly appalling special effects. Were they trying to make the worst move ever? I didn't know anyone did special effects this bad any more; especially surprising when you consider what Monsters just achieved on a low budget with a laptop.I watched Megafault having enjoyed Eriq La Salle in ER. It is very sad to see him in such a poor movie.Sometimes movies are so bad they can be funny, but this one insists on taking itself seriously. At least my wife and I enjoyed trying to outdo each other in describing who terrible Megafault was, but it would have been better to just turn it off.

WOW!!!! Bad acting. Preposterous plot. Impossible science. Horrible dialogue. Low grade special effects. Hyper-melodrama. Padded scenes. More technical, geographical and continuity errors than can be counted. Yep, this one had all the ingredients for a "B" movie. I love the "B" movies of the 50's and 60's because they are bad and know they are bad, but are presented just for the shear fun of it. Had this made-for-TV movie had that attitude, I would have been all for it. Unfortunately, this one wants to be serious. Now it's just BAD.Even my ten-year-old spotted the problems with the faults chasing cars; the untested sonic wave machine conveniently already up on a satellite ready to save the planet; and the fact that huge quakes were seen destroying buildings, yet when the characters were on the street, there never were any broken windows or debris in any of the backgrounds to suggest something catastrophic had just happened.By the time this one ended, I really was scratching my head as to why anyone invested money to make this thing.
