Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
View Moreif their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.
View MoreVery good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
View MoreCatching up on them during the Christmas holiday,I found DreamWorks non-franchise films to have a unique, quirky atmosphere. Finding it to surprisingly not be shown on TV during X-Mas,I was happy to recently spot the movie being shown, which led to me seeing the Monsters Vs. Aliens fight. The plot:Just before she is to get married Susan Murphy gets hit by a meteorite. Surviving the hit,Murphy starts growing to 50ft high. Rushing to stop more of the public from seeing her,the military knocks Murphy out. Waking up,Murphy finds herself locked in a secret government facility with Dr. Cockroach P.H.D., B.O.B. and Missing Link, who tell Murphy about the battle between Aliens and Monsters.View on the film:Flying over the 50's Creature Feature Sci-Fi era,co-writers/(with Maya Forbes/Wallace Wolodarsky/Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger) directors Rob Letterman (who moved to live action with Goosebumps) and Conrad Vernon pay loving tribute to the era with bold characters whose primary-coloured,big eyes design helping the bright blue and green monsters slither into action. Landing on an unexpectedly quiet note for the final, the directors land the fight scenes with a mighty crunch, thanks to a sharp eye for scale allowing the viewer to follow the monsters stomp round the peaceful cities. Filling the alien spaceships with lively performances from Seth Rogen and Hugh Laurie in a tantalising playground, the writers disappointingly stay away from picking up everything that the setting offer, due to the focus on Murphy leading to the other monsters and aliens feeling oddly normal,in a battle that is far from being the war of the worlds.
View MoreA woman transformed into a giant after she is struck by a meteorite on her wedding day becomes part of a team of monsters sent in by the U.S. government to defeat an alien mastermind trying to take over Earth. The first time i saw Monsters v.s Aliens i thought it was alright but after seeing it again i thought it was pretty awesome there's a lot of good team work, good jokes, nice action and although the drama doesn't work as much as you wanted it to it's still a very entertaining film and i was surprised that Susan was the leading star not because she is a woman or anything but because her character was so interesting in the TV series everyone gets their amount of screen time but in here it's pretty much her and it totally helped me to like her character more and let's not forget all those famous actors that helped bring this characters to life if you like Aliens, Monsters or animation in general you will not be disappointed.
View More*SPOILERS*I'm so, so sorry, but I think my expectations went a bit too high for this film. Reese Witherspoon, that unfunny actress that acted in Legally Blonde and Legally Blonde 2 comes and acts in Monsters VS Aliens, a movie that sounds like it will be tons of fun and will have heaps of laughs and (family) action scenes. Boy, was I wrong. Only a couple of scenes of action were in this movie. But that was not the bad part. The reason that this film is so utterly bad is because the "jokes" aren't even jokes! I think I just found out how to give people cancer, and that's to watch this movie! The film makers did an awful job with the jokes and quotes, and the storyline was terrible, plus it didn't even have enough action to entertain us through this horrible animated family comedy. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of family comedies. I also like a lot of family actions. Although this had more action then most family animated films, it had less laughs than most family animated films! Let me start off with how the movie starts. The movie starts off with a woman (Reese Witherspoon) in a relationship with a man, and she gets struck with a meteorite that turns her into a giant. Reese Witherspoon is then stuck into a top secret government facility with MONSTERS...that have terrible quote lines. Hip hip, hooray. So, meanwhile, in deep space, Gallaxhar the purple alien sends ...let's say something to find an energy source on earth. But of course, it has to land in America, doesn't it? It wouldn't be an action film then! So, the fictional president makes contact with the something, and the something goes and has a party at San Francisco. Yes, I know. Terrifying. The top secret facility lets out the monsters that tell horrible jokes out of the prison of unfunny monsters so they can destroy the something. So, they kill the something. Then an alien comes and so on...I won't tell the rest of the story, just in case you do watch it. However, I recommend you don't watch this movie unless you are going to watch it with your kids. Your kids will love it, however, you probably won't. 4.4/10!
View MoreMost everything coming out of Dreamworks is typically clever and enjoyable. Monsters vs Aliens is full of clichés and some illogical sequences. -the dance revolution mechanism that plays a crucial part in accessing or overriding a computer. -clones holding guns, the master yells ATTACK! Why run towards the enemy ready to punch when your holding a gun? So why does very clone is an ear shot of the word attack do this? -no butterfly of that shape could fly. Absolutely no way.The plot wasn't 100% predictable. I didn't expect the government to actually set them free, so was interested to see how they'd handle being on the outsi- ',oh the cliché way. When posing as clones and demanding the prisoner being handed over, I didn't expect the outcome.Only a few moments made me laugh. The screaming secretary/president and the prisoner scene mentioned previously.75% of this movie was spent rolling my eyes.
